Yes it is, it's possible for the capture tutorial pokemon to be shiny so they really mock you.

The real kii is 2-5 shinies in a horde battle

Would you guys say that turn based combat is fundamental to pokemon games? I hope as much as the pokemon games advance in the future that they never make the combat system into some action paced, button mashing disaster.

honestly Pokken got boring really fast, But that might have been due to its utter lack of gameplay and character selection

I've yet to find my own shiny, but I've ended up with like 10 in trades and I know they're all hacked but I figured I may as well keep them because they were traded and I didn't hack to get them

Yeah I'd say it's fundamental. It limits what they can do to add to it but it works perfectly currently. Just as addictive 20 years on

I have all of the main Pokemon games except Pearl version because my mom didn't have a lot of money when D&P came out and I chose Diamond because it was more "manly" and I thought Dialga was cooler. Interestingly, Gen IV is my least fav, hm.

The combat system is the whole game. It's what everything revolves around and why the internal mechanics work the way they do. There's a reason I play Pokemon and not certain other RPGs.
