Bruno Mars had a smash 2010 and he even continues his reign as one of the best male acts of 2011 with The Lazy Song as one reason to prove it. I listed this song as one of the standout tracks from his debut album and I’m surprised that it became a hit when it was released. Bruno really makes you feel so relax and careless with this song which talks about being a sloth all throughout the day. It’s such a fun song to listen especially during on a weekend morning. The music video is also good, we see Bruno doing some basic funny choreography together with the chips, not of course at its best but entertaining somehow. Bruno Mars not only knew how to make great love tunes but also he could deliver us some fun tracks like The Lazy Song. I’m hoping he still surprise me in the future with this kind of song.

One of my early favorite tunes last year is Pretty Girl Rock by Keri Hilson. This song is so addicting because I always hear this on the radio. By the time I got to see the music video, I was in love with it even more. The unforgettable line “Don’t hate me 'cause I’m beautiful…” got stuck on my head for days. Keri Hilson played different roles of groundbreaking women from the early 20’s up to the 90’s. She portrayed the likes of Josephine Baker, Dorothy Dandridge, Patty of the Andrew Sisters, The Supremes, Donna Summers, Janet Jackson and TLC. Each character she portrayed during the video got my interest making me love the concept of it. Personally, this is my favorite Keri Hilson song so far; simple, classy and glamorous. If she can provide us with this kind of music anytime soon, I’m sure I will fell in love with it just like Pretty Girl Rock.

This song is so 2010 I know, but If I Die Young only got my attention last year with the help of the radio being played it frequently. With this song, I had come to love another country music artist after Taylor Swift and Lady Antebellum. If I Die Young is accompanied by acoustic guitar, banjo, accordion, mandolin, and fiddle which makes it sounds beautiful. The song talks about being contended with life and having no regrets in the case of dying young. It’s about recognition to life when someone passes away. The Band Perry got much success with this song. If I Die Young has longevity already on the Billboard Hot 100 proving that this song doesn’t get old. The Band Perry is one of the new acts to look out for especially on the country music scene. If they can provide us with more songs like this, you can expect them to be in my list next year or so.

After the failure attempt of the lead single Run The World (Girls), Beyonce makes a follow-up to save the 4 era and Best Thing I Never Had is on its rescue. At first listen, I can easily compare this to Irreplaceable but after some time, I realized that both songs are different to each other. The song is concern on the breakdown of a relationship between Beyonce and her lover. Revenge and karma were also touched on this song and this is heard on the opening line “What goes around comes back around…” Beyonce belts out a powerful rendition on this song making it beautiful. As for the music video, Beyonce sure looks hot wearing the lacy corset and lingerie combo with garters singing inside her boudoir. Despite being one of the standouts tracks in her latest record, Best Thing I Never Had doesn’t seem to have the smash hit magic however it is still a good R&B tune and enough to be on the list for 2011.
