On one hand, it's really cool how Metagross' pre-evolutions are like component parts of it. Beldum being a leg, Metang being half of a body (made up of two Beldum). On the other hand, this kind of robs them of some identity of their own. They're both ok, but there's little to say about them besides "oh, it's mini Metagross". Then we have Salamence, who's evolution forms each have their own separate identity and look. That is the reason I prefer Metagross to Salamence, but the Salamence family to the Metagross family.
Also why was it so high last time...?
Phresh falls to evolutionary bias, "the sneak peak at what is to come." Literal sneak peak, as in... well, you get it.
