Book was supposed to be the relationship I ended, and the 'pages lost' are the times we didn't get to have as a result. Like if you close a book before reading all of it, you miss some of the tale.

I totally understand the book meaning and what the pages meaning was but it was the connection between rent, and the other two that confused me? Why does high rent make you think of missed opportunities?
Oh wait - are you saying that even though the rent is high, it's not the thing you've lost the most, but rather the relationship? Makes sense now if so.
