Idk but they really ****ing hate her. A lot of it has to do with her decision to move to the U.S. a few years ago. Japanese netizens are melodramatic and she once said something about feeling like an outsider when she was in Japan after moving to LA to be with her husband, and they got pissed.
Not as bad as Kuu's controversy with the pregnancy fluid statement, but a lot of people were still looking for fuel to fan the flames.
To balance it out though, her stans are loyal as **** - especially the gays and girls that grew up with her. She's still (I think?) the richest woman in Japan since forever so slay a biT. She'll be fine.

Now, let's discuss this thread
http://atrl.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1064104&page=17 (the stan war in the Utada sales thread)
Now here's the truthT. I'm a ride-or-die Ayu and Kuu stan. That's a fact. But I've made it CLEAR that I recognize neither of these two sistrens will ever be mainstream again unless the collab with AKB48.
The audacity of a certain poster in that thread to use sales = cultural impact is a damn joke. Saying that Namie is as respected as Utada..? That Namie even mattered from 1998 - 2008..? This is heresy.
That was JPOP's music/sales peak for female solo acts and Namie missed out on it.
Namie had her comeback, fantastic, cool, awesome, slay a biT. I'm glad she was able to have healthy sales once the other girls floundered, but to say that she's had the same impact as Utada or Ayu? Come on now.
Name is great, she's an icon, but she's not a legend.
