I kinda like 1D since their UK single What Makes You Beautiful, but I'm kinda surprised with all this mania. I mean, there's nothing really spectacular about them.

I feel the same way but I'm really not getting in the way of another boyband cycle. Overall, it's great for music because it creates unity in pop and rebellion from people who can't stand it, which results in even better non-pop music.

They are simply basic. There isn't any original quality about them and they aren't any different from a typical Disney/Nickelodeon boyband. I can see their appeal though, kind of.

I like 1D but I don't quite understand the craze for them, either, or how it happened. But I, like you, am not against the return of the boyband. It's great for both pop (if America can do it well) and non-pop.

The reasons that boybands disappeared in America is because all the good ones broke up (NSYNC) or turned to crap (BSB), also anyone new ones that tried (V Factory NLT, Varsity Fanclub etc etc) were basic.

One Direction are the first in a long time that seems promising.

They're not particularly good at anything but they have a boyish cuteness about them and make fun, catchy pop songs. It's a recipe for success.
