Where M5 beats Coldplay is in terms of songs and even that, Coldplay has just has many hits and theirs are more iconic and remembered. And M5 songs don't make up the difference in albums sales.
Keep in mind that Coldplay rarely sends their singles to Pop radio. In fact AOAL finally goes for adds this week.
Both bands are touring this year, Coldplay is close to selling out a world stadium tour while M5 is struggling to sell out the arenas they have.

Maroon 5 have currently at this points in their careers more successful singles than Coldplay. But Coldplay still sell way more albums.

and 25 is also still #1 (85th day!)

and the margin down to #2 is pretty big, altho after tonight, Coldplay will surely take back the #1 spot on the albums chart.
