I mean, is a single really a single without a proper radio push or ANY promo aside from a music video and maybe a remix or two?
True. I need to latch on to this excuse to defend Bey's last two eras.

Ik, ik but this time I'm being serious. Like BTD was such a success for such a non-mainstream act. It outsold any Beyn album this decade ff; but the following releases didn't and/or hardly scraped platinum? The GP's loss.
Aside from Hotline Bling, One Dance and Too Good I only heard Controlla (good) and Pop Style (ok) but there's no way I'm sitting trough 20 track Drake album maybe if he has another good single then I'll finally give it a spin

Born To Die sold 1 million in UK w/o promo and hit singles and then Ride barely made it to top 10 after the hype, I was so shocked I was sure she had #1 in the bag at least with Paradise
With Ultraviolence it was obvious she was never going to have that kind of appeal again, the album simply wasn't mainstream
