Concert review: Selena Gomez lets her guard down at Bell Centre

When a tightly choreographed arena pop show goes off script, it’s usually something regrettable: a confetti cannon gets jammed, a dancer passes out from food poisoning, a lighting rig collapses and wipes out the band. There’s no room for error, and precious little room for spontaneity. But while Selena Gomez’s Bell Centre bash on Thursday dazzled with 22nd-century imagery and endlessly inventive staging, the sight of the 23-year-old star bursting into tears is the image that lingers.

They were happy tears, prompted by a sea of inspirational cards held up by well-organized fans during the empowerment anthem Who Says — a repeat of a 2013 incident at the same venue. It left her at a loss for words and lyrics, wandering the stage in disbelief as her backup singers and musicians carried on. This was an intimate, spine-shiver moment that dwarfed the rest of Gomez’s 75-minute show.

Now they released the back area for the Barclays Center. They should have done it earlier, I hope it still sell out.
The next couple of concerts are doing great.
Btw I think she shouldn't to do so many concerts in Canada, I know she loves Canada but every tour just one or two concerts there sell out. Or maybe she should do promo on Canadian TV before the tours.

This tour is really doing well. Her team should've booked shows in Adelaide and Perth. Also, I wonder if she's gonna do Puerto Rico. So excited for the Dublin date.

You don't know what it's like for Canadians to always get shut out for a North American tour. Literally the options are Toronto, Montreal or out West in like Edmonton, Vancouver etc. I know the shows won't sell out or bring in great numbers because of our dollar but it's good for her to build and expand her brand and appeal. I'm very surprised at her commitment to doing 11 shows in Canada and spreading it out across the country. I think the most of a pop girl to come that many times was probably The Monster Ball Tour with 16 times but that was a majority of the same cities. (Montreal 3 times, Toronto 4 times, Ottawa 2 times, Vancouver 5 times and Edmonton 2 times)

Does anyone else find it annoying, she's not promoting the tour as much as she should be? where are the radio interviews, tv promo, etc.

Why isn't she posting tour dates link on twitter or instagram?

She is just not so interested it seems. She's still getting good money.

She cares. Otherwise, she wouldn't put any effort on the tour. idk I just wish she would promote more...

I think she just does not have much notion about marketing. Her mother and stepfather always took care of this for her. Besides that, the person responsible for her music now(Sara Newkirk) represents Miguel and Pharrell Williams and they have a completely different audience and I think she uses the same strategy for Selena.

I think we all know why she put so much effort into the tour. The one thing she has problems with is live performances, and I'm sure she's aware. If she had that nailed down, she would be the perfect package for pop stardom. This tour is like her practice run where she gets her performance skills in top shape so she can do really well next era. She mentioned having 2017 dedicated to her music carreer, I wouldn't be surprised if she went all out with her next era to be bigger than ever.

She didn't make a secret about the fact that her dream is to be a "big" actress, like that is what she really wants. I get the sense that her plan is to raise her profile as a singer, and as her star power rises she will get good roles more easily so she can become the actress she always wanted to be. Like how Lady Gaga is doing right now, she gets roles because of the star she is, not because of her acting talent. (this is not shade, I watched AHS because of her and she did well, but you know what I mean. She didn't even have to audition, she just called Ryan Murphy on the phone and arranged for her to be in the show)
