I have a scary feeling they will find the jet somewhere they are least expecting it to be. Imagine if it's in the deepest trench of the ocean though. Doesn't South China Sea have some of the deepest trenches in the world?

Hmm.. I wonder what could have happened?
Aircraft suffered catastrophic failure of communication and navigation equipment. Pilots attempted to turn back and return to land, but given the fact that it was dark, ended up off course. Continued for a bit, popped up on primary radar by the Malaysian military, who attempted communication, but failed. Subsequently, aircraft shot down by Malaysian military. Ensuing three days are spent sending ships and planes to search unrelated area while the military figures out its story.
Also fairly confident that the US and China know exactly what's going on, but aren't speaking because doing so would reveal our surveillance abilities in the area.
Am I close?

Oh I just realized I have the first comment on this hit thread. Slé.
Anyway, I still can't believe a jet-liner can just disappear like this. Crazy.

I'm really starting to think this too. If it was shot down by national security then they could have used the last few days to remove all the evidence.
This is getting to be some Scooby Doo realness

Regardless, I'm decently confident that the SAR teams are being purposely redirected away from wherever something actually happened. My guess is that it made it past Sumatra, over Indonesia entirely, before it was shot down, and is now at the bottom of the Indian Ocean. Directing SAR to focus on the Strait of Malacca is a time-buying tactic to make sure nothing is left floating.

Couldn't anyone have seen it, if the plane crashed, had some tech problem or some crap. Day by day this story is getting mysterious, like wtf actual **** happend, I really hope the passengers survived, and one of them are smart enough to swim to some shore and cry for help, bet they won't find anything for another 10 days

Someone on TV was saying "1. Legalities and jurisdiction issues are hampering investigations."

How much is 31,000 yuan?
Malaysia Airlines will provide a total of 31,000 yuan (RM16,577) to all families of MH370 passengers, and will be flown to the crash site once the location is known.

Scary.
A local bomoh (shaman) and psychic claim to be able to find MH370, and an African televangelist says he predicted this last July

flight passenger tidbits: 38 Malaysians were on-board MH370, including twelve colleagues, a family of three, a couple on honeymoon, a woman who had just celebrated her retirement and about 20 top management staff from Freescale Semiconductor.
