i really dislike jurys though. they are just not free of flaws.
i was just checking the swiss jury result.
one juror had ukraine at no. 5 in the semi, but no. 1 in the final
look at his top 10:
semi 2:
01. australia
02. israel
03. latvia
04. belgium
05. ukraine
06. norway
07. lithuania
08. albania
09. bulgaria
10. serbia
final:
01. ukraine
02. australia
03. belgium
04. israel
05. austria
06. netherlands
07. latvia
08. armenia
09. lithuania
10. serbia
belgium was suddenly better than israel and latvia in the final.
another juror had ukraine 7 in the semi but suddenly at 3 in the final etc.
i know some songs might sound better/worse second time around but they just have too much influence. maybe they should be reduced to 25% or just put more people in it. 10 at least.
So this years contest seems to have had very little impact on itunes. The winning song is doing nothing bar in a few countries. Highest song in Uk is #34 and thats UK song. Makes you wonder whats its all for besides some "One night only" TV spectacle. Not that its ever really been relevant to modern music but it seems to becoming even less so.
I am amused by how Australian broadcasters act like its some huge Olympic size honour to get a silver medal in the contest. I dont think they get the joke.
Kind of late, but here, this site tracks the progress of the annual songs on itunes/spotify. For future reference
Jamala is definitely the most talented Eurovision winner of all time. The vocal range, the fact that she can yodel, how she goes from one genre to another, and how she's an amazing songwriter whether in Ukrainian, Russian, English or Tatar. She's brilliant.
I'm so afraid that Ukraine isn't going to live up to my high standards... Sweden 2016 really spoiled us with both a quality show, and quality entrants. Hopefully this year will have inspired all of next years participants to raise the bar even higher, music wise.
