Our Lifetime Achievement Award present unfortunately could not be here tonight. He's in the hospital undergoing an operation, so we're skipping ahead to the awards for Best Rap Album and Best Country Song.
In the meantime, a breathtaking performance from FKA twigs. Already a winner tonight for Best Alternative Music Album, this is "Two Weeks"!
Hello and good evening. I'm Rider and tonight I will present one of the albums category and that's Best Rap Album.
I have to say, Rap and Hip-Hop are my favorite genres, that's why I'm honored to present this category. Rap is an amazing genre, filled with great beats, meaningful lyrics and overall genius minds from genius artists. The amount of work that goes into a rap project is really overwhelming.
Let's get to business and announce the nominees of the category.
Childish Gambino - Because The Internet
The 2nd record released by Glover, under the stage name Childish Gambino it's a great body of work and an ambitious effort of the rapper. The album spawned several singles like 3005 and Sweatpants. The album features guests like Jhene Aiko and Azealia Banks.
YG - My Krazy Life
I have to admit, I only discovered this album last december and it amazed me since my first listen. The album is filled with hot beats, and it's a great example of a modern classic gangsta rap album.
The album marks YG's debut. The album was met with great reviews from the critics, it spawned singles like Left, Right and Who Do You Love? and features artists like Drake and Kendrick Lamar.
Schoolboy Q - Oxymoron
Oxymoron is the third studio album by Schoolboy Q and again, another great body of work. A cohesive album with haunting production and Shcoolboy's agressive lyrics.
It was supported by singles like Collard Greens and Man of the Year and it features artists like Kendrick Lamar and Tyler, the Creator.
Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP 2
My favorite one of the bunch, with a little bias, it's my favorite album released in 2013.
Having to carry heavy weight, being a follow up to the classic that The Marhsall Mathers LP is but in my opinion it managed to do it great. Of course it's not reaching that level but still a great effort from Eminem, way better than his last one, Recovery.
His flows are great on the album, the wordplay and the smart metaphors are still there and we get Eminem at one of his best. The album was supported by singles like Rap God and the worldwide hit, featuring the barbadian Icon Rihanna that recently released her new single FourFiveSeconds, The Monster.
Iggy Azalea - The New Classic
The New Classic is the debut album by Iggy Azalea.
And the winner of the Best Rap Album at this year's Grammys is...
Iggy Azalea - The New Classic
Give it up for IGGY.
”Oh My God! I'm shaking right now. I mean to be in a category with so many RAP ARTISTS and winning over them it's overwhelming.
I want y'all to know that I wrote this speech all by myeself
[no shade... no no no... no.. no shade no no]
I want to thank to everyone that believed in me and that's T.I. I also want to thank everyone that I had beef with on Twitter and helped me getting my name out there.
This is such an honour. Thank you again. ”
