I'm signing up with PRISM next season if Prismatic is quitting. All these Katy Cats keep letting it down.

Choose The Album, Then a Song 7: VOTE! [R7]
Welcome to the seventh season of ATRL original game
Choose The Album, Then a Song
Welcome to the seventh round!
Top 10! Well... 9! That's right. As you know, Prismatic decided to abandon the game due to personal reasons and is out of ATRL. But don't hold your breath. Since Prismatic is out we'll have a DOUBLE elimination. One more person will leave us once this round is over. So watch your feet!
Let's meet the entries!
T H E R U L E S
For six seasons this game had its ups and downs and to make sure the 'downs' part won't happen again, I had to create a set of rules. So if you're signing up, this means you agree to:
1. DURING THE VOTING PERIOD, YOU'LL HAVE TO CAST YOUR VOTE (OTHERWISE YOU'RE PENALIZED);
2. YOU CAN NOT ASK FANS/FRIENDS TO SAVE YOUR ALBUM;
3. THE JUDGES HAVE TO BE FAIR. IF YOU DETECT BIASNESS OR UNFAIRNESS, LET ME KNOW.

1. VDK - Little Mix - Salute: Stand Down

When you think instruments, you think pianos and drums but the Mix went beyond that and served us with Stand Down which defies the expectations of instrumentals.
Not only did the Mix sample the sounds of shattering glass, heavy drums, gongs, clashing cymbals, beatboxing, clapping, and even wolves howling, they ****ing snapped in the third verse as the only driving sound.
Little Mix gave a new definition to the meaning of “authentic”, “original”, and “raw sound” because all of the sounds used come naturally and we hear them on a daily basis, however Little Mix put it together in the most badass fashion and came out with this heavy percussion smash!
Stand Down is by far one of the heaviest songs I’ve heard in terms of production and I hope you will get that too after listening to this music!

2. Penk - Kimbra - The Golden Echo: Waltz Me To the Grave

The longest song on the album, and the closing track as well, Waltz Me To The Grave is a 7 minute fusion of different instruments and genres. Starting off with an almost cinematic choir of voices and a twinkly piano, it continues with a heavy bass and drums carrying it along, evoking genres like psychedelic and funk. At the 3:30 mark it then takes a turn and speeds up a bit implementing more drums and guitars, developing beautifully and slowing down once again, until there is nothing left but a humming noise, or an "echo" as Kimbra called it, and it's a perfect way to end the song and the album. The classical feel of the instrumental and overall smoothness to it in contrast to most of the album makes it a stand out, and it's the little details in the production, like a bit of subtle maracas in the chorus, shows the meticulous care put into this to make it the outstanding instrumental it resulted in.

3. Dollas n Diamonds - Taylor Swift - 1989: Wildest Dreams

Taylor literally put her heart into this song, the instrumental signifies Taylor's thoughts and feelings during the events described. The piece starts with haunting violin accompanied by a throbbing rhythm immediately giving a feeling of anticipation to the listener. She is anxious and apprehensive, the moment encompassing her thoughts. The chorus soars in with a second set of strings more urgent than the first and synthesizers crash in glorious intensity giving a sense of happiness, release, and scattered thoughts. It's frantic, but passionate. The second verse goes back to the mindset of the beginning, but with more severity and tension. Brooding synths are juxtaposed with the cheerful chime of a tambourine. Her heart knows this leads to destruction, but it also flutters with the butterflies in her stomach. Supported underneath with the subtle sound of somber piano she decides she doesn't care anymore, the high too euphoric to quit. The preceding sounds return setting the stage for the coming symphony. Erupting in euphoria, a barrage of strings, synths and percussion assault the audience. There are so many thoughts but they're lost in the waves of freedom and ecstasy. Finally, in the end she is left with just the haunting memory as it fades to black.
Not only is this song sonically an orchestrated masterpiece, but the story told by the music represents the heart of the album itself.

4. holyground - Lorde - Pure Heroine: Glory and Gore

Lorde's music is considerably minimalistic, art-pop with electronic influences. The production is not that bombastic, but it's more subtle with delicate intricacies. My definition of a good instrumental is not only how good it sounds by it's own, but also how it services the lyrics and vocals, to create a cohesive song that really packs a punch.
"Glory and Gore" starts off ominous with synthsand the heavy beat kicks in. And the chorus comes and the electronic fuzzy sounds burst in, taking the whole song up a notch from it's gloomy tone. The best part is the bridge, where the instruments drop out except for the beat and this sinister beep.
The instrumental is spectacular as it carries out the dark sound very well from start to end. It's intense and mildly frightening. Nothing else sounds quite as evil. Yet at the chorus, the song explodes, like a rush.
Best of all, this complements the gladiator analogy Lorde uses to compare celebrity culture and violence. The beginning sounds like walking into the Colosseum, not sure if what looms is impending doom or victory. Then, the way the chorus blows up is like how the gladiators charge full speed at each other. This instrumental exemplifies the marriage of sound and lyrics, and how glory (the full-charged chorus) goes hand-in-hand with gore (the dark and somber tone).

5. Luigi - Janet Jackson - The Velvet Rope: Empty

Empty's instrumental is one of the most beautiful ones on The Velvet Rope. The song tells the story of Internet relationships and empathizes with those who confide to strangers on the Internet, yearning for acceptance. As the song begins, it seems like Janet and the person she is conversing with online are going through their "honeymoon phase" and the song's production perfectly compliments this. The song's production at this point is melodic, soft, and beautiful. But as the song progresses, Janet explores the dark side of these Internet relationships. She admits she rushes home just to get on the computer and becomes frustrated when she finds herself alone, forced to wait for hours for her online lover. As Janet questions her sanity, the production starts to grow more frantic as the synths battle with a drum machine, creating a sense of urgency.
You can simply get lost in the production of this song. The reason why I chose this instrumental, other than the fact that it's simply breathtaking, is that it tells a story. Even without words, you can tell how frantic Janet feels waiting for her lover, or how joyous she feels when she finally is able to talk to him.

6. Prismatic - Katy Perry - PRISM: Legendary Lovers

Legendary Lovers is a standout track on PRISM because of its exotic nature and tribal-inspired backing drum beats. The song contains folk elements with several instruments such as tablas, oriental strings, coral sitar and a double violin being used in the production of the song to create mystical and spiritual beats.
The highlight of the song is clearly the bridge, where we hear a pumping Bollywood-influenced breakdown with strong and powerful percussions.

7. MusicLoverDude - Carly Rae Jepsen - Kiss: Call Me Maybe

When it comes to the instrumentals of the Kiss album, they are mainly just there to provide a "background drop" to the lyrics. With Call Me Maybe's however, you can tell this instrumental had some life put into it. It stands out from the rest of the album because from beginning to end, there is something always going on to keep the listener interested. The beat warmly welcomes you in at the beginning, putting the listener in a happy mood. The beat carries the song to the chorus, where the disco strings come in at full force with guitar riffs added in during the second half. The beat mellows out for the second verse but ramps up again for the second chorus. The disco strings then signal a transition to the guitar lead bridge which keeps the momentum going, before the song has a brief "calm" point with the disco strings and the guitar and then a brief nanosecond of silence. The chorus comes back with the guitar lead bridge escorting the listener out as the song comes to an end.
The structure of the song is what helped Call Me Maybe become so huge. The lively instrumental made the lyrics come to life and as a result, they both got stuck in listener's heads. The fact that the instrumental even got compared to The Sims music shows how much it stood out. The instrumental stood on its own and that's why it's the best on the album

8. Bloomers - Baroness - Yellow & Green: Collapse

Yellow & Green is an album physically split into two. There’s a Yellow half and a Green half. Yellow is the harsher bludgeoning half while Green is the more folky experimental side, the side where more abstract elements come in to play. As a whole the album is varied and musically interesting, no more so than on “Collapse” where all the different elements of the album come together in one song. Located on the Green half of the album, “Collapse” combines some of the harsher elements of Yellow and absorbs them into the pastoral Green which makes “Collapse” the most musically interesting song on the album. Yellow’s abrasiveness is recast as sinister whooshing and gurgling electronics destabilizing the delicate synth, bass, and guitars.
One of the reasons I love Yellow & Green so much is how the instrumentation of the songs morph to reflect the theme of each track. On “Collapse” the gently pulsating synths give the song an organic pleasant weightless, floating feeling only to be upset by the unsettling outside electronics that weave in and out to subvert the song and give it unease and discomfort. Even the warmer guitar licks dancing throughout the song are subverted, feeling more like fire flickering up from rubble than a comforting campfire. The instrumentation is so dynamic and alive that there don’t even need to be lyrics to get why the song is called “Collapse,” the music tells the story by itself.

9. Capital B - Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill: You Oughta Know

"You Oughta Know" is certainly one of Alanis' most explosive and rage filled songs - something the acid tounged lyrics most definitely contribute to. However, when isolating the instrumental tracks, it becomes apparent how large the instrumental backing adds to that overall feel and mood of the song. One thing I love about this track is the build from the first verse, then the bridge, to the explosion in the chorus - it's like a fever rising until it hits the breaking point and all hell breaks loose. The instruments play a vital role in this rising feeling - with the song starting with sparse and understated drum kicks, allowing the listener to focus simply on Alanis' opening lyrics of accusation on confrontation. As the song builds more, guitar and bass are added (thanks to famed musicians Flea and Dave Navarro - fun fact!) and you really do sense the fire kicking in a bit. My favourite part, instrument wise, is 1:15, when the chorus comes in and everything just ramps up to the next level. Listening to it, you can feel it in your chest - what started sparse is now firing on all cylinders, something that greatly accentuates Alanis' increasingly enraged vocals in the full track. This section features wailing electric guitars, something really interesting and unique for Alanis, given that her instrumental tracks are usually purely acoustic. I think for these reasons, You Oughta Know is not only the most interesting use of instruments on the album, but also my favourite.

I'm not really comfortable with other members taking over. You guys worked hard to reach the top spot and now someone else will just win with what you nurtured I'd rather you leave the game with the legacy you built, because who knows someone else may ruin that for you ... We are close to the finale, and if other members want to take over, I think they can wait till next season and sign up with another album. Of course, that's just my thoughts and personal opinion on this idea of 'taking over an album that has reached Top 10'.
