There good enough sales. Longevity is what counts. Most of your top selling albums of all time didn't have high first week sales, so have a seat. These first week sales fanatics are the reason artist don't take time to deliver solid eras. People are in it just for the debut.
I dont think its so much about expecting front-loaded sales but the fact that katy has massive promo, hype & hit. Basically all the components it takes to debut big; think JT's 20/20 and Gaga's BTW.
And retorting back with longevity is almost laughable to me cus it only shows that Katy needs to continue to promote every single like a lead single (which is what she did for TD) to keep her sales afloat. I'll be anticipating remixes, discounts & payola as this era forges ahead cus thats just how "female MJ" rolls.
She's lucky to have a label that invests in her so much for so so outcome. No other pop artist gets that.
This is very disappointing, like you guys are really coming with these bum ass excuses. Katy had her biggest era ever with TD, almost every single went #1, she was a radio queen, having 100M audience impressions with every song. Then she came back with Roar which was again a massive hit and then on top of that, her ass been on radio all the time non-stop. Based on her last era she should have done 280k and with these new songs, she should have definitely done 340k+.
death @ the bandwagon "fans" who liked her only to drag Gaga calling her a flop now.
I always knew this would happen. People are just not willing to spend more than $1.22 on Katy Perry, which is why she can't sell albums and tour tickets.

It's not Katy's fans or even bandwagoners that are in here doing the most.
Lol both sides are doing the most in here. It was a flop opening but it's probably gonna do well in the long run. Why is that so hard for y'all to admit...
It's funny how people say that she's not about first week sales when Roar had a huge debut and broke a record going 3X platinum and that fast, yet, her albums struggle to get high nombers.
And ended up selling over 4.5 million copies, something that Katy hasn't toped with OOTB + TD + Prism yet. You should not be commenting that.
That's the whole point. Longevity is what counts. Obviously, a debut album won't debut high. Putting that aside, longevity is generally what is the true test of how successful and impacting and album is.
The picture of the Hits Daily Double building chart in the OP is the only numbers available so far. The official numbers and final top 10 won't be available until Billboard releases them this afternoon or something.

You know what's funny? That all the people call her a singles artist and then they want her to open with huge numbers.
Queen of longetivy
I'm not sure why anybody expected more than 300K to be honest, especially from people that have constantly branded her as a singles artist. A lot of you (on both sides) are trying really damn hard tho, the obsession is quite sad and unhealthy.
