I mean they won't just up and leave now.. But imagine if you're a transnational company that makes shoes; a really nice special kind of shoe. To make this shoe, you need special wood from Greece, glue from The Netherlands and nails from Belgium..
Due to the internal market you can basically import all that **** free of custom duties and taxes and make your shoe...
Then you ship it free of those costs to all the 28 countries in the EU.
As a UK company you enjoyed access to a larger market than just the UK.
But if the UK LEAVES, and is no longer part of the EU, those benefits would no longer exist and the company would have to pay to import the material and others based in the Member States of the EU would have to pay to import its shoes. They might turn to say France then, since they wouldn't have to pay customs duties to import from another EU country.
Then the shoe company dealing with revenue loss and higher costs tied to import, could be more inclined to say, move to Germany and start its operation from there...
