This is a typical racist white person response used to discredit minorities experiences.
The kid presenting likely spent just as much time on white supremacist forums like Stormfront and watching Fox News memorizing all his drivel about "reverse racism". Only difference is, he's wrong. It's like people are offended when kids are enlightened enough to speak up about social issues. If you want to stand up in front of a room and tell minorities what should and shouldn't consider racist, you're asking to get dragged and deserve every bit of it.
you do realize that not every misguided teenager is a stormfront-using white supremacist, right...?
I think you guys are miscontrusing my stance on this subject.
I'm not only in favor of protecting white people.
OFC if I see a black person, an Asian, etc being oppressed I would defend them too.
I'm just saying it's not helping to promote equality when minorities (especially of the younger generation) are demonizing all white people.
Demonizing all whites? There were plenty of whites in that room. He was in the only one getting his wig tugged, even by his brothers and sisters
Of course it's racism, it's a discrimination based on race.
Now here's the interesting part, a scenario like that is purely hypothetical and will likely ALWAYS remain that way because minorities simply do not possess the power to ever do something like that.
1. They need their business to grow.
2. There are anti discrimination laws in place that would prevent these kind of awful racist acts.
Now let's explore the subject a bit further.
When 12YO A Slave came out, a few European countries deliberately chose to put Brad Pitt on the cover even though he's only in it for 5 minutes and completely left Chiwetel & Lupita out.
Their logic is that black people don't generate revenue overseas. Now that is undoubtedly racist and it is a direct result of the institutional idea that minorities are inferior.
I understand your point. A Mexican/Haitian/Afro-American you name it being prejudiced against a white person is a terrible thing and I'm completely against that but let's not forget that the US is a country that was mostly built by white people FOR white people. Even though minorities were always there, they were always an after thought.
But its not hypothetical as that has happened in the past, qualified people losing jobs or being declined for schools because equality of outcome was Americas mindset. It has happened and the only reason there are laws against it now is because it used to be much more frequent than we see today.
you do realize that not every misguided teenager is a stormfront-using white supremacist, right...?
The title and the presentation he gave based off of what the girl was saying was not the stance of a "misguided teenager". It's someone who is coming from a polarized home with an extremely condescending and dismissive attitude towards the reality of race in America.
"Who will sympathize with the poor, misguided white teenagers? They don't know any better!"
So you're saying that you don't believe that there is at least ONE black person in power in the U.S.?
Okay, white people may have oppressed blacks and native Americans years ago but why should the current generation have to pay the price? Where is the logic? How can we move on with society if we just keep blaming an entire race for mistakes their ancestors have made hundreds of years ago?
There are but racists are motivated by the idea that they are superior to other races. POC don't have that mentality because since birth we were made to believe we were inferior.
I can get personal and talk about my experience.
I'm a nurse and I've had countless encounters with white patients who simply refused to be taken care of by a POC but I have NEVER seen minorities act that way.
We fight for equality not domination. & BTW blacks are STILL being oppressed (racial profiling, that kid who blew up a black church, Travon Martin, the list goes on.) + it wasn't hundreds of years ago 60 years ago Blacks could not seat where white people seated.
While I agree that the term Opression and Racism sometimes get mixed together, that guy was wrong trying to play the "reverse racism" card in a room full of diversity. He got what he deserved. I can't at people defending him , he literally tried to mock an entire room of people and they left him speechless. It must feel awful defending white privilege and every damn white individual in the room laughing at/judging you

There are minorities who believe they are superior to others though.
Azealia Banks is one example.
EDIT: Plus, not all white people feel superior to minorities.
So you're saying that you don't believe that there is at least ONE black person in power in the U.S.?

This is the ultimate issue with reparations, and one of the many reasons why it will never happen. Those responsible for the cause are long, long dead. It is completely illegal to even ask descendants of slave owning/plantation owning families to pay up. People like Azealia Banks are not crazy for feeling like they deserve reparations, because African Americans as a whole do deserve some kind of economic and financial stimulus to even out the misfortunes cursed to their people hundreds of years ago, that continues to shackle and hold back current black communities and individuals. In the end, it's impossible, though. You would need to invest billions, if not trillions of dollars into black communities and businesses, and that's an estimate based on absolutely nothing, since no accurate or general record of financial and economic loss suffered by black communities over the last few hundred years even exists.
I'm sure it does.
Why do you think it's impossible?
You aren't sure. You rarely see people of colour in the position of great power because of racism in the first place, unless they're self-made, which is also a very difficult category of business for a person of colour to succeed in. You don't see many entrepreneurs that are of colour who are greatly successful. And by greatly successful, I mean the ones who are at the top of the top (the billionaires).

Umm, where? She even said he was very respectful in his presentation and rebuttals. You might not agree with his opinions but don't lie about his motives.
Oppression? You live in a country that allows you to have this debate regardless of your race. Shut up you dumb bitch.
So for a young woman where in a society where women are paid less than their male counterparts along with being a person of color she is called a dumb bitch cause she gets to speak her mind.
I'd look in the mirror first before calling anyone dumb especially a young teenage girl a bitch.

Regardless if they're self-made or not it doesn't matter.
If Beyoncé, for example, wants to hire a new team (accountants, management, marketing team, etc.) and doesn't hire any of the white people that apply for the job just because of the color of their skin then that is racism. Just like if a white person doesn't hire black people.

What price is the current generation paying though? Getting called out? Whites aren't suffering

The white girl who tweeted that may have felt that way but they fact that he's pulling this **** only 3 days into black history month is disrespectful and antagonistic within itself.
