Disagreed on blaming both being a copout. I think if you want a viable solution, being realistic about the cause is the best way to go. Both parties are responsible and, to some extent, both parties' policies are responsible for where we're at now. I think you could easily argue that Republicans are MORE responsible, coming off a surplus and all, but that doesn't meant the current Democratic policies under Obama have been effective either. Just less ineffective

Mess. 3D movies is NOT representative of the overall economy and is a f**ing terrible example to use.

1) Studios charge a f*** of a lot more for 3D because they can. And they raise it because they can
2) 3D is kinda flopping to hell as a whole, so they're price spiking to make up for the trend not catching on too well
3) Considering 3D technology gets more advanced very rapidly, it costs more to shoot 3D. Not to mention they tend to get more ambitious with their usage of 3D, which also increases the pricing. Needless to say, this bumps up ticket sales

Yes because simply lowering personal income tax rates on the existing complicated and 300 billion dollar a year system by like 4% is the same as scrapping the current tax code streamlining it and introducing a new flat rate.

And the inflation issue is not imaginary. The only reason they want inflation increase right now is because the EU and their euro is in even more trouble then we are. Once global currency values started to fall the dollars inflation issues subdued but it still doesn't change the fact that goods are increasing in price while wages aren't.

2. Plenty of them are as diverse, or more diverse, than the US.
3. Tell Germany, who took in a million immigrants last year, that they have less immigration.
4. Favorable balance of trade is no where near consistent across these countries. Plenty have poor trade balances.
5. Easy access to resources is exactly the opposite of truth. The US has DRAMATICALLY more access to resources than most countries.

Was simply giving one example of a service industry with prices rising too quickly. then Waffle misunderstood thinking i was relating 3D tickets to inflation when i was attempting to make a completely different point entirely saying that the movie industry has been overcharging on 3d and its skewing the numbers.

You never mentioned Germany once. When you said countries with "high standards of living" I was assuming you were referring to the Swedens and Norways which they're unparalleled ratings in those areas.

We have had a progressive tax for almost 200 years, and American has done pretty damn well over that time. You have shown NO evidence that the progressive tax has caused our problems, and NO evidence that a flat tax would fix them.

There is a reason why no modern country has a flat tax, and that is because only a moron would want one.

There are dozens of countries that have similar or better standards of living than the US, and they ALL have large governments. None small.

Well obviously the progressive tax is no longer working considering the crippling debt and year after year deficits. Tax cuts didn't work, tax hikes didn't work so why not give a new system a try? If its bad we can always go back to the old one...

Even if the flat tax worked, it would just give the government a reason to spend more, then they would raise the tax. Eventually they would have to split back in to a progressive tax or the poor would be crushed.

As you pointed out, spending is the problem, they take in plenty of tax money.

Yes which is the ENTIRE ISSUE. I have literally said in several different posts that nothing will change unless this 2 party duopoly is interrupted. They will continue to spend spend spend until one day we are forced to default on our debt with China and the global economy collapses.

this issue is complicated by the fact that none of us have the answers because there honestly is no answer because you can't fix something that is so deeply broken. Oh well I really pray something changes.

The two party system needs to go. Unfortunately that would require constitutional amendments, which means it will never happen.
