What's got you so excited?
I'd obviously say "Yes! You should read the books!" especially since it's a teen-series, so they're not too long (I remember as a kid being able to consume the first book in a day or so, as with the next few before they started getting longer and better).
Lemony Snicket's narration of the events is the key to the series, keeps it lighthearted and foreboding all at once.
people wanted a sequel film so badly... thank god they scrapped that stop motion mess they were planning. 
I'm glad Netflix has picked it up though, their original shows have been very high quality so far.
