You're like the first person that includes Neko Case on his list. <3
"Substitution" is also great!

You got a lotta nerve including Neko Case on this list!
/nonsense
Great to see Neko Case on this list! As well as Eminem, Dead Weather, Lonely Island, and more.

So bloody wicked to see Muse #1. That album is epic, just epic.
Loving the love for Lonely Island, and Oasis - oh yeah, last year-end showing ever? kinda sad.
SSPU - Substitution. Brilliant track. love the riff at the end before the last bridge.

I hate everyone too. What a coincidence. "Substitution" has such an awesome video. I had to download the song just to listen to it because it is not easy to do when watching the video.

I Cut Like A Buffalo is so badass. I think it should have been higher
OH MAN! I was gonna use that SAME picture for my Lonely Island image... until I decided I should remove them because they are Comedy.
Haha, I remember I thought of Home Video as a clone too. Still, they were good for a couple of weeks.
Keep it coming!

The 2009 YECA: Top 100 Singles of 2009 (90-81)
Aww, nobody guessed.
No matter, let's get right to 90-81!
Brace yourselves, Incubus fans, because this piece of news will come as a shock to you: this is the only Incubus song in the top 100. That's right, no "Black Heart Inertia". Sorry, I just didn't care for it. That's not the case with this Prince cover. It differentiates itself enough from the Prince original that it becomes something more, and it is legitimately fun to listen to.

Mr. Hudson is another of my favorite discoveries in 2009. I, honestly, thought he was black when I first listened to his voice. Tell me that you didn't have the same reaction. He has an incredible voice that completely stole the show on another song much higher than this song on this countdown. He's still the shining star here, but Kanye West does provide a nice cameo.

Here's my problem with putting "Letter From A Thief" so low here: I'm not sure that it's the lesser of the two Chevelle singles released in 2009. On occasions, it sounds a lot better than "Jars". That being said, this song, as great as it sounds, just didn't connect with me in quite the same way. Still a good song, though, and it's, basically, the classic Chevelle sound, which almost always works.

This is one of the toughest choices that I had to make, because I knew that only one Kittie single was making it to the top 100. "Sorrow I Know" is definitely a good song, but "Cut Throat" more defines the classic Kittie sound, is far more fierce, and provides one of the more empowering choruses of the year. Sorry, "Sorrow I Know", but my choice is clear.

Honestly, I don't know why this song is so low. I really don't. Was 2009 just that good, or am I just underrating "The Fixer" criminally? I don't know. It's not a bad song. In fact, it's pretty damn good. So why is it so low? Is it another case of a song not connecting with me as much as it probably should have?

Unlike "The Fixer", I know why "Russian Roulette" is #85. I think that this song is my favorite Rihanna single, but I also cannot say that it's better than the 84 songs that beat it out. I LOVE Rihanna's vocals here, and the dreary sound of the song itself, but something about this song leaves me cold after listening to it. Oh, and then there's the gunshot at the end. Really, Rihanna? Did you really need to add that into the song? We get it, "so just pull the trigger". Sometimes, it's best to be subtle.

First of all, there are only three more songs with numbers in them on the top 100. Thank god. Now, with that out of the way...okay, let me have it. I deserve it for putting "21 Guns" so low. But what can I really do? At least it's not my least favorite single of the 21st Century Breakdown era. That distinction would belong to "Know Your Enemy", which *gulp* didn't even make the top 125. But I digress. If this list was created in July, this would, without a doubt, be top 25, if not higher. But I came to the realization that, as good as this song is, it's also way too similar to American Idiot-era Green Day to hit me in a much more personal way. In other words, I just can't connect too much to it. But it IS a damn good song.

I freaking love the start to this song. It's so fantastic, but it's also quite decieving, because it quickly breaks down into the main portion of the song, which is more subtle and deceptive in its power. Well, beyond the fantastic vocals of Gavin Hayes. He really has one of the more wonderful voices in all of rock, and it's a shame that it's stuck in a band that just isn't that popular, as hard as they try, and as much as they should be popular.

What the hell happened here? I mean, why did this song not become a big hit? I know that it's been three years since "King Without a Crown", but here's a song with a legitimate and beautiful message, with a great, dream-like sound to it, and it doesn't even make a blip?! What the hell is WRONG with mainstream music today? I don't get it. Don't worry, Matisyahu. I still love you, bebe.

Yet another case of "I should have ranked this higher than it actually is"-itis, but I just could not justify putting this any higher. That being said, even though it's my least favorite of the Velocifero singles, the Ladytron singles from Velocifero, as a whole, kick the ass of most artists. I will also say that, more than any of the other singles from Velocifero, this is Helen Marnie's showcase, and she runs with it.
From 90-81, we go to 80-71, whenever it's posted (I'm done saying that a block is getting posted on a specific day. I should know better!). 80-71...*looks at the ten songs*...geez, how do I do a description for THIS block? All I can really say is that somebody will like at least one of these songs...right?

Let's get crazy, supernova! The fixer hit me with a russian roulette and 21 guns (omg #84?!).
Yes, I commented like you, hahahah. Too many songs that went high on your weekly c/d went low on the YEC. Sigh, oh well...

You may be disappointed with "21 Guns" being so low, but that will be made up for by the other two Green Day songs that are higher up.

9/10, sir; I have yet to hear Mr. Hudson. I'll get on that A.S.A.P.
"Sorrow I Know" was never actually released, so you may get a chance to include it next year. Major props for Incubus, dredg and Ladytron.

I've actually been hearing "One Day" a lot lately. I think it's NBC's official song for the Winter Olympics? Might just be a late-bloomer hit.
You are killing it YET AGAIN. Pearl Jam is my favorite from this set, but there's lots to like here. Good stuff, Ryan.
