Both RIAA and Ifpi (credible sources) have listed the Janet album as selling close to 20 million.

Janet is grossly under-certified so going by those certifications won't get you anywhere btw.

Nah Janet was def bigger than Madonna in the 90s. But Madge was too huge in the 80s and her sells in the 90s are adequate enough. So basically Madonna released material more frequently, all the while those releases sold more.

It really isn't hard to figure out.

It's certified 6x platinum in the US but has sold over 8 million there now. Common sense would say if she's under-certified in her home country, she's under-certified EVERYWHERE

Nah. Britney still trails in ticket sales. Janet's tours have grossed over half a billion, while Britney is around $300 mil in tour gross. She hasn't seen Janet's gross at the box office, nor the return on product sales (albums, singles, merchandise, etc). You have to remember Britney didn't write on her first two albums (where 60% of her success comes from), so that money went to her producers and writers. She made them wealthy. They're even in albums, and Britney benefited from the digital market with singles. But Janet has two record contracts totaling $120 million, more than Britney's total net worth.
