The bottom line is that most artists shoot for number ones and are worried about the charts, this in turn makes their music generic and not very artistic. So if you think shooting for number one by promoting a ton means you care more about your art, you're wrong. It means caring more about the bling. Lana doesn't care about that. She shares her music through performances at festivals etc... You should let the music speak for itself. Also, it's really annoying how you feel the need to sign your name every time you post.

Exactly. If someone I was a fan of "didn't care" about what they were doing, I would be offended as a fan.

And before you say "you could illegaly download it anyways then". Some people feel like the artist deserves something(even if they don't need it or want it) for the hard work they put into the album and you want to repay them for the enjoyment their music brought you.

Yeah, sorry for calling you a condescending dick -- that was unnecessary. I apologize. The rest still stands as my point. I get that it is your opinion, and I know where you are coming from, I just think you are being unfairly critical of the statement she made. She has made her distaste of fame clear in the past, so it doesn't shock me as a fan of hers that she doesn't particularly care about album sales in comparison to actually putting music out for people who know her.

She has a really bad attitude towards her career. I love her and am a really huge fan, but comments like this really turn me off to her sometimes. I know that I should be used to it, but she needs to be a little more grateful.

Why are you worried about it if you're not even a fan? I'm a big fan and saw her when she came to concert. I can tell you that she clearly cares about her work and her fans. Just because she doesn't push her record doesn't mean she doesn't appreciate you buying it. It's like when artists post their albums and you make the price, if you want to support them buy it, if not, then listen for free. Also, I like a legit hard copy. And for a while she wasn't even going to make another album, but she did it for her fans.

Again, I never said Lana Del Rey has to compromise her art. She can make her pseudo indie music forever, but she should care about promoting that pseudo indie music to the best of her ability. This is the point.

Since this interview was done before her album was released (a day before as they stated , 12 June i would assume) am happy to say the contradictory chanteuse has already contradicted herself by doing Glastonbury and is scheduled to perform at festivals in the U.S and on various BBC shows this month. Who else but the Contradictory Chanteuse of our time ....... i love Lana

Edit: The interview was done album release day 13 June , still doesn't make a difference, am relieved though as this means she's found hope again

It seems you're ignorant to the fact the majority of the most timeless and acclaimed art of all time, was made with artistic integrity.

Humans are naturally selfish, in which if we love something so much, we tend to keep if for ourselves.

Perhaps if you realised that some people would rather have recognition (Ultraviolence was critically acclaimed) rather than mass consumption, your argument would make sense.
