It's Delta Goodrem with her first of 2 performances doing You Will Only Break My Heart, a song we'll find later on the list.
Time to see who #70-#61 are. Ready?
70. In This Moment "Forever" (The Dream) USA [3,257 pts] Peak:#3 <#37 on MWC> (59,948) [Airplay:#69]
This song is currently on a 16-show run that included a stop at #3 and a 12-spot rebound just a short time ago. They have charted twice in 2008 but this is obviously their bigger hit. Maria Brink and co. will now have expectations to continue the ride, can they do it? Both their songs each spent 16 shows on in 2008.
69. O.A.R. "Shattered (Turn The Car Around)" (All Sided) USA [3,185 pts] Peak:#3 <#39 on MWC> (61,003) [Airplay:#68]
This is currently on a 36-show run that also included a rest stop at #3, their career-high. This is also their first Endchart appearance in over 4 years. The guys did an interesting video that had the city shots in them and the fans were there to support it, becoming one of the leaders for Fan Support in 2008.
68. Charlotte Sometimes "How I Could Just Kill A Man" (Waves & The Both Of Us) USA [3,137 pts] Peak:#5 <#41 on MWC> (61,300) [Airplay:#67]
The Airplay was there for this rookie, she impressed many eyes when this song with a controversial title got to #5 earlier in the year and spent a solid 49 shows on the countdown which is good for 24 weeks. However, she's not higher because the Fan Support wasn't as high and obvious other reasons. However, she has impressed her critics for the most part.
67. Lesley Roy "I'm Gone, I'm Going (Unbeautiful) Ireland [3,271 pts] Peak:#2 <#36 on MWC> (62,593) [Airplay:#66]
Can you say 50? Lesley enjoyed 50 shows of shear power as I'm Gone, I'm Going rolled its way to #2 in the Summer, but then it just couldn't hit the accelerator and spun out of control sliding to a watery grave. Her song Unbeautiful spent a brief time on the chart and that's gonna be back in 2009. Lesley had a good year indeed.
66. Carrie Underwood "Just A Dream" (Carnival Ride) USA [3,471 pts] Peak:#5 <#30 on MWC> (62,991) [Airplay:#70]
You don't see her playing guitar a lot as seen in this pic here but maybe we will in a future video from her, who knows? Flattery can get you so far and even with the bar set so high, she does good. This although has enjoyed a 41-show reign on the chart and a stint at #5, she hasn't quite had the Airplay to boost her success rate. This is one of 3 from her on the Endchart so obviously she's only just begun. This video had a somewhat wedding themed and I don't recall the end of the video so if anyone can tell me what happened, that'd be fine.
65. Miranda Cosgrove "Leave It All To Me" (ICarly) USA [1,735 pts] Peak:#2 <#86 on MWC> (64,301) [Airplay:#62]
She's on the left. Miranda's run showed us that this Nick star is not gonna be just a Nick star, but infact have a serious impact in 2009 or 2010. She soared to the #2 spot but got shut down by Demi Lovato (who we'll see later) and this was one of her 4 songs to chart in 2008. However, only one of them managed to go even top 10. (We'll see About You Now again in 2009) Still, Miranda had a good year. To all those that think she's untalented, you're wrong. She will be ready for it.
64. Duffy "Mercy" (Rockferry) Wales [2,772 pts] Peak:#6 <#60 on MWC> (64,498) [Airplay:#65]
We haven't talked about Duffy yet so let's get into it. 34 shows is what we got from Duffy who wowed the folks all around with Mercy. She did good at it by getting all the way to #6 and a brief top 20 appearance in overall points for the year, and this is just the beginning for this Welsh newcomer. She's got so much planned for 2009 including Stepping Stone set to make its mark. Can she make the 2nd year memorable?
63. Julianne Hough "That Song In My Head" (Julianne Hough) USA [2,579 pts] Peak:#10 <#68 on MWC> (65,777) [Airplay:#63]
If you're looking for a fun-loving, sweet-giving, dance-loving, country singer, you're looking at her. It's Julianne Hough and she torched the chart for 2 stints with a total of 41 shows and got to the #10 spot before fizzling out. She's no Carrie or Taylor, but she doesn't want to be, she's her own unique way. The video is simple but the song left its mark. She's however fallen behind recently on doing well on the charts which I'll get into another day.
62. Taylor Swift "Our Song" (Taylor Swift) USA [1,583 pts] Peak:#15 <#91 on MWC> (66,109) [Airplay:#64]
Taylor Swift sang her song on the MWC for 33 shows or 16 weeks for short. This song may have only maxed at #15, but the Fan Support was really high. They wanted to hear this more and more and the fans were really on the edge of their seats. This is the first of 2 from her on the Endchart and she's still got her current smash left to go. Our Song had a buzz about the song that did well.
61. Stephanie McIntosh "A Change Is Coming" (Tightrope) Australia [2,532 pts] Peak:#5 <#71 on MWC> (67,302) [Airplay:#61] <Scored 7,067 pts total, #2>
She plays guitar too? Nice!...well, at least I think that's a guitar in the pic she's holding, but anyway. We got 89 shows (44 weeks) from Stephanie's smash non-single A Change Is Coming including 39 in 2008, and this is the first of 3 massive Stephanie hits on this Endchart. We know the expectations were high but she met them with flying colors. This got to #2 in 2007 (on the final chart of that year) and #5 in 2008. She's still got 2 songs left and both we'll be seeing MUCH LATER on. It's sort of like an Inspirational song in a way.
Speaking of Stephanie, she's performing her hit A Change Is Coming right now which is one of 4 performances from her....wow! Take us to break Stephanie
Stephanie:My pleasure Mike and yes, I got that guitar you mentioned about and I'm ready to play it. You'll love this guys and girls. And to my haters, you only make me stronger so if you don't want me to succeed, please don't hate on me then. You only ask for me to prove you doubters wrong. Angelica Rose and Jazmin Conte of Redemption Song told me so.
Stephanie:Mike had to use the Restroom so I'll tell you what's coming up. Joanna Martino returns to help with the Top 20 New Artists and Top 40 Songs by Newcomers in 2008. We also have Shiny Toy Guns performing after the break and Britney Spears makes an appearance later on the show if we have time. Get your questions ready and get your kleenex ready because if we have time today, the crowd is gonna explode literally. Remember, go buy my Tightrope CD if you can find it at your local store!
For a real perspective of Stephanie McIntosh's historic achievements, let's look here.
Tightrope is considered by many in the MWC to be the Most Successful CD by an artist on the MWC in quite some time. Not a single bad song at all on the album and seriously, go pick it up if you can. It could be a classic soon because I don't know if Stephanie's gonna stick with music in 2009 or be 100% driven on acting. I read somewhere where it said 'former singer Stephanie McIntosh' which I'll wait till I see proof that she is indeed giving up music.
As far as the Tightrope era goes, she scored a gem with every song. Mistake was just the Coming Attractions, the main course was Tightrope and the Climax in So Do I Say Sorry First which all hit top 10. In total, she had a whopping 11 or 12 appearances on my MWC from 2006-2008 which is incredible especially for an Australian artist.
So it gives me great pleasure to officially announce that the Best International Artist this decade to
STEPHANIE MCINTOSH
I will post her complete run later. She had a 2-year run to remember for sure and broke numerous records. Up next, The Best of the best in New Artists.
O.A.R.'s run is pretty much maxed out while In This Moment is still going strong. Forever could be top 50 on the Endchart next year if they don't fall off before June or July.
Thanks. It wasn't easy and it only gets better. REMEMBER everyone, do Google searches on these singers if you don't know them.
We going all around the world on tomorrow's show, but it's time to show some love for the new wave of talent. First, it's time for Shiny Toy Guns. This is actually an MWC/IDRL premiere for you guys. Here's Ghost Town
Stephanie:Yes, I still have my guitar with me and I'm still playing it even during the breaks. I've gotten questions like 'Stephanie, are you still singing?' I say, not right now. Acting is my focus and then back to singing. I will tell you the truth, I am better than some of you American singers, not gonna lie. I feel like I should be on the same level with the Britneys, Christinas and even the Lady Gagas, well not really since GaGa's new. But she gets my vote for Best New Artist though. She's fresh and a fun face to watch. OK, enough of my babbling. It's time for the Top 20 Best New Artists and this was as close as it could get. Joining me after this is Joanna Martino. Yes, you're getting my commentary guys so stay tuned.
20. Eiza 'Lola' Gonzalez
Mike, you're gonna have to tell me who she is. I have no clue who Lola is. *reads cue card* Lola AKA Eiza Gonzalez is a singer/actress from Mexico who made her 2008 debut one to remember by hitting #2 with Si Me Besas, the week after she jumped 86-11. *stops reading* Oh that's who she is? Now it rings a bell. Being from Australia, we don't get a lot of talk about the Latin scene. All we know is Shakira and partially Belinda, that's it.
19. Jazmin Conte
The only Redemption Song girl on this list. Don't know her either Mike, who are you feeding me? You know, when you don't make music in 2008 you tend to be out of the loop and clearly I was. *reads cue card* Jazmin Conte is a singer from Albright, New Jersey and she is fierce with 32 piercings and a song in Tourmaline. *stops* Tourmaline? Is that French? Well, she did hit #5 with that song and is getting some big buzz.
18. Meaghan Cooper
She survived a Japanese Game Show long enough to log a 3rd. Don't know her either Mike. Seriously, what is going on here? *reads cue card* You would think Meaghan is just another pretty face who would excel in business....wrong! She is a singer/songwriter from Texas and her song Goodbye with Elephant Garden nabbed #3. *stops* Never heard of the show, but I heard though it featured um, Magide or w/e it's spelled? Not brushed up on my Japanese.
17. Graham Colton
A DOLL! He's a doll guys. I know this guy pretty well. He got to #1 on Mike's chart but my Aussie compatriot Delta held him from going any further. He had a solid year with 1 song.
16. David Cook
I am more of an Archuleta fan myself, Mike prefers Cook. On the last chart of the 2008 season, Light On went to #9 and it helped him win enough brownie and style points to finish #16 for 2008 on the Best New Artist showdown. This guitar-slinging rocker knows how to have fun and well, the video shows it.
15. Kate Voegele
Kate Voegele is an amazing singer. This American songstress actually made my own personal chart and was #4 for 7 weeks with Only Fooling Myself. She's gotta be a one to watch for me. If you haven't gotten her CD and liked her on One Tree Hill, go buy it.
14. Brooke Fraser
Now that's what I'm talking about! My compatriot Brooke Fraser had a late stretch to remember and I hope she is top 40 for 2008 with Shadowfeet! Us Aussies stick together right? She is so talented and you Americans need to give her a try. www.myspace.com/brookefraser go there and enjoy the presence she brings
13. Miranda Cosgrove
12. Demi Lovato
This is a dynamic duo I think that should duet together. Combine Miranda's sweet voice and carefree attitude with Demi's sassy voice and aggressive attitude (as in Get Back) and you would have a perfect team IMO. Miranda is from ICarly, Demi is from Camp Rock. Both had hits to remember
11. Fireflight
Definitely a tough group to beat. Vanessa Amorosi told me to give these guys a try and well, I must say they impressed me. Unbreakable hit #1 twice for a reason and will be on the top 100 coming up, but I hope my Aussie mates can hold them off. *Remember, this is Stephanie McIntosh's own words, not mine.*
10. Clique Girlz
Is it just me or does Mike love the cute singers? Honestly, I don't like these girls that much...but Mike apparently does. I don't see how they're even on this list. Then I Woke Up was better with how Diana DeGarmo did it, not these girls. Diana's voice was wonderful on that, but CG's is somewhat of a mess. Anyway, they did hit #10 in 2008 with this and appeared earlier on the list at #76. I'm just not impressed with Clique Girlz and would probably be in my worst 10 artists of 2008, sorry Mike.
9. Charlotte Sometimes
Another mention of Charlotte Sometimes which is her 4th or 5th in 2008 Endchart. I have to say, Charlotte's a fun face....however her song title creeps me out. I mean, she has to like men right? This singer hit top 10 earlier this year and she scored a minor hit with the title track, but I have to honestly say, she's just a bit too um......creepy? And seriously, look at her lyric. It reads and I quote, 'You can't understand, how I could just kill a man.' Look at that and tell me, does it sound suicidal? Well, Mike doesn't think so and I understand.
8. Lesley Roy
Honestly, I have no comment. She's a great girl and let her be. Haters need to stop it these days, they'll bash anyone who isn't on the same level as a Britney, Beyonce or Christina. You haters need to look at yourselves in the mirror! Angelica and Jazmin said it best, 'Haters make you stronger.' Do you seriously wanna make these girls stronger than they already are if you're hating on them? Well, you answer that folks. Lesley hit top 5 with I'm Gone I'm Going and enjoyed herself. I got to chat with her backstage and she was like, 'Who are you? Oh wait, you're a Neighbour. Name's Lesley.' Surreal? Yes. A joy? Yes!
7. Lea Marie
Now this girl is cute. Delta Goodrem told me that Lea Marie is a girl to watch in 2009. I actually got to download World Of Wonders to my IPod and decided, 'Let's give her a chance.' I was like, 'Wow, she has the voice.' The video though, I dunno. I need to watch it again. Oh wait, I found it! Look below. She did hit #1 twice in 2008 with this and I hear she's adept at guitar and piano too. Watch it and I'll enjoy it too.
6. Duffy
I love Duffy. She's gifted. Her voice is like an angel. Mercy is a nice song, Warwick Avenue is a song with meaning and the Rockferry CD is a must-get for Christmas. She hit #1 on my personal chart I do sometimes in April. Mike, you can have your Clique Girlz, I'll take Duffy easily!
5. Joanna Martino
Let's look at what Joanna has going for her with my official, 'Steph Says:Best New Artist talk' Voice, check. Style, check. Attitude, check. Hosting, check. Talent, check. This lyric I love especially from Energy and I hope I have this right...'I can feel your energy, You are my life, The current running’ through my veins. You’re the power inside of me, When I am weak, Fill me with your energy'. Seriously, how can you not go wrong with those lyrics? I'm not a Christian singer but she is and is proud of it. Joanna tells me, 'That's the right lyrics. Good job!' She hit #1 once and held off the Jonas Brothers. So Anti-Jonas fans, thank Joanna because she saved you anti-fans from having to deal with Burning Up #1.
4. Katy Perry/Leona Lewis (TIE)
A tie for 2 top-notch artists? Mike, are you serious? NICE! Katy has the single in I Kissed A Girl and Leona has the single in Bleeding Love, both monster hits. Katy's album has had moderate success while Leona's was a blockbuster. Both girls deserve massive success, but Leona IMO is Best New Artist, I promise you that Mike. You say Lights is? I say Leona is. But then again, you're not a singer Mike so I understand.
3. Britt Nicole
I seriously think she's crazy. Britt isn't really the best singer in the world and I think her voice isn't that stellar and her style isn't great. However, she did impress me with one thing. What she did to me on the chart. She treated me like a sack of potatoes by passing me quickly with Believe that topped 5 times at #1, a record for a first single by a first-time charter on the MWC. I'm a bit bitter, but Britt has my love though. She does have something going for her and it's personality. I love a good singer with good personality.
2. Sara Bareilles
You've seen her with her keyboards, but I found a picture with her playing guitar. She told me that she is getting better at it, and I've asked to help her practice. She told me, 'No Stephanie, this is something I gotta do on my own. No worries right?' Sara, I think you're the 2nd Best New Artist behind Leona. Love Song paved way for you to a massive hit for a great 2008 and you should get Song Of The Year. Anyway, she hit #1 7 times in 2008 which is impressive for a new artist. I must bow to her amazement.
1. Lights
Lights? OK, what kind of name is Lights!? *Remember, Stephanie's words and not mine* I don't get the name, but she has a lovely voice and style and her video is amazing. 8@1 for her is great for a 2nd chart appearance from Lights and I must give her my props. You are a very gifted singer Lights AKA Valerie Poxleitner, BUT PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY YOU NAMED YOURSELF LIGHTS! Love your EP too.
Stephanie:And can you explain to me this?
Stephanie:OK, time for a performance. Awesome song with Apocalyptica. Rock out to I'm Not Jesus rockers!
Stephanie:Stay tuned, Joanna Martino joins me tomorrow or later tonight with the top 40 songs by Newcomer artists. If we have time, we'll have Britney Spears stop by and Bonnie McKee perform.
I never knew Meaghan Cooper was a singer, I'll check her songs later, but she was my favorite on the show.
I like Cook, Katy Perry andDemi Lovato but not too much, lol.
Kate Voegele Only Foolin' Myself is great
Brooke is probably the biggest surprise on this list at #14. Shadowfeet had this moving message in the song, but I don't understand what Shadowfeet means.
