Well, my first comment in this thread did what you requested. I already emphatically named Stay as the bigger hit. However, this is a discussion board, so while it may seem to be sidetracking when someone talks about other things aside from numbers, it is actually a part of the discussion. Unless you envision a thread like this to be one person posting the numbers and then everyone else quoting it and saying, "Yes. Those are the numbers." then you should expect other cultural factors to be discussed.
'Cultural factors' are subjective and hold no weight in a discussion like this. I might say both DIL and Applause are monumental flops that are already forgotten now, never mind in 5 years and it would be no more valid than you saying those songs sound more distinct and of the moment than Stay and will be remembered more. It's all subjective and can't really be used as an argument.

But both DIL and Applause are both statistically proven to be anything but monumental flops, so that is much less valid than saying Stay will be less remembered. However I do see that this is a subjective viewpoint. It was an opinion and was never treated as anything more than that.
This thread is not about opinions. It is about facts. Stay sold more, outpeaked Applause in most countries > Stay was bigger WW hit. Easy to use logic, huh ?
Was your post supposed to be any kind of argument ?
This thread would be nothing if not for opinions. It would not get past the second post without repeating itself.
Drunk In Love saw a peak on 20 charts around the world.
Stay saw a peak on 29 charts around the world.
Applause saw a peak on 34 charts around the world.
Drunk In Love is last no matter how we look at this.
Stay peaked higher in the bigger music markets, but Applause charted on more charts.
I'd say it's between Stay and Applause and that they're almost equal with Stay slightly above Applause.
Note how Applause was the only one that went peaked high in Japan and South Korea (International). Charting high in Asia is an indicator of worldwide success as opposed to just peaking high in most European countries.
