ICE ONE, LEONA!
COVERING a Snow Patrol song is just the tip of the iceberg for Leona Lewis who, I can reveal, is planning a full rock transformation.
Everyone’s favourite talent show winner – and now Grammy nominee – is heading straight for No 1 this weekend with her version of Run.
Leona worked with R&B stars Ne-Yo, 29, and Akon, 35, on her debut album Spirit but she wants to get involved with more bands like The Script on her planned follow-up.
Leona told me: “I have a few tracks on this album which have a bit more of a rocky edge, so it’s kind of going in that way a little bit more.
“It is going to be a live, organic feel next time around. I’m all for trying new things.
“I think The Script are so talented and great guys and if they did want to write with me in the future then definitely I’d be up for it. I think they are amazing.”
And she has not ruled out a collaboration with the Dublin trio.
“There is nothing set in stone,” she said. “For the next album there are a few bands that I am going to be working with, hopefully, and it is kind of going in a different direction.
I just want to see how it goes.”
The Grammys, where Leona is up for Record Of The Year for Bleeding Love and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, will hopefully see the 23-year-old X Factor winner take home some silverware after surprisingly being snubbed by both the BRITs and the MTV EMAs this year.
I wouldn’t be surprised if our Hackney lass is invited to perform at the prestigious event, which will be held in February next year.
Leona is chuffed that her fellow female warblers Adele, 20, Estelle, 28, and Duffy, 24, are also being recognised at the Grammys for their hits.
She continued: “I am so supportive of any artist but female artists in particular.
“It’s a hard industry and so many people want the chance to live out what we’re doing. I think that we have to support each other on it and flourish on it.
“It’s great that so many women are coming out and being successful – so empowering.”
Too right.
