Discussion: Mind blowing facts/thoughts?

So, I think about really strange stuff all the time.
First of all, kinda obvious, but it absolutely amazes me how people are born basically out of sperm and egg cells. Like, how many other cells develop out of these, and here we are - humans.
Secondly, we were taught about that on Biology lessons (I don't study that in English, so I hope you'll try to understand my explanations). Basically, during the period that child is in mother's tomb it passes all the stages of historical development. So, on the first weeks fetus looks kinda like fish, then like amphibian and so on until the get the human look. LOL, that's some sick ****, but it's the way it is!
It was mentioned before, but I always wonder how the Earth was made. What was there before? Like, there wasn't even darkness, because dark colors couldn't exist. Emptiness. But how can you imagine emptiness in your head?
There goes second thought. Sometimes I think that all the things we are able to imagine somehow were already there before. Like, why can't anybody imagine and figure out a new color?
(maybe new material as well)
.
Here's one of the most exciting thoughts I get. When I was a child I asked my parents a question ''Why can't more money be printed, so everyone will have enough to be rich and happy?'' (sounds dumb but I may guess I wasn't the only one to ask so). I don't remember what they responded and didn't think much about that. Then, a couple of years ago we had some social science class, our teacher told us: when there's huge crisis in country, some amount of money should be destroyed (IDK what about your countries, I'm talking about my small North-European country). So, it made me think about some weird stuff. Basically, we (usual people) should work (''fight'') for some small amount of monthly wage, while politics somehow rule the country and get the $$$$$$. Not that it is some 1984-sized drama, but in my eyes political structure is a huge mess. It's like we have to survive to get some money and home and food and stuff, but in a more civilized way. Sick tbh.

Also, what if life is just a dream? A really long, ****ed up dream? What if this is "the other side"? What if we're already dead and in "heaven"? How would we know otherwise?

That's pretty freaky.

Scientists are constantly looking for planets with similar conditions to Earth in order to find life. What if there's life on other planets made up of unknown elements and capable of living in extreme heat/cold?
What if our eyes are primitive and we're not able to see the full spectrum of color available? Imagine the possibilities.

I never understood why scientists claim planets and moods have to have water to sustain life...
Just because all life on Earth requires water, that doesn't mean extraterrestrial life needs it.
For all we know they could use acid as their water and breathe in carbon monoxide and that's what they require...

Science says that the most likely explanation for life coming to be on Earth is that the necessary basic elements came to this planet with comets from outer space
If that is true it would mean these elements are present in a lot of other planets, the only question would be is if they have found a way to survive and develop there

that's actually a fact. we are for example only able to see 3 dimensions while in fact there are way more dimensions. but I guess that's not just because of our eyes but because of our minds+eyes

omg, didn't read this b4.. i thought i'm the only one who is crazy to think about "what if life on earth is just a dream?"
seriously tho.. the thought comes to my mind because of "loving someone so deeply and same sex, it puts me in hell and heaven"
it's like spiritual enlightment...

I really love this thread. I'm someone dumb though so I can contribute nothing, but I always am curious about afterlife. I mean, will we be able to feel after we die? Or will it be just a blank -- like a long, deep sleep without a dream? The latter one scares me to be honest. I cannot imagine living in a state of emptiness.
I also wonder if magic apparently is the hidden capability of human, that those who can do magic are those who optimize their brain capacity.

You probably mean the past. If you travel to the future and kill your grandparent, it wouldn't matter since you already exist, it would be the same as just killing them in the present lol. This is why time travel to the past is theoretically impossible. Stuff like this has always fascinated me

You can't travel to the past because in order to do it you would need to travel faster than the speed of light. This is impossible because you would need an infinite amount of energy, which is another impossibility.

Shrimp have 16 photoreceptors, whereas humans only have 3. Imagine what they see.

not really a mindblowing thought about existence/afterlife but thinking about this diagram is always so frustrating to me:
who knows what our life on earth would look like rn if people during the dark christian ages focused more on society's wellbeing and science instead of dedicating their lives to church and burning witches.

Ugh, please lets not do this. And this is a completely ridiculous atheistic claim. There were plenty of scholars during those times, many of which were Catholic priests and monks.

Why the Creator created us? What's the purpose?
What happened to Dinosaurus and other giant animals? What if they exist again? Has all the places on Earth already been explored?

you can only use a very small percentage of your brains capacity, imagine what we could do if we had full access to everything our brain is capable of?
Are we just living in someones long dream and one day they'll just wake up?

If we had full access we'd die, some people have access to a relatively bigger part, those are all people who ended up insane

I didn't say that there were no scientists. However, most were very restricted and had to deal with condemnation and prohibitions. This is why Leonardo Da Vinci (the mind behind the first pic on the wikipedia site you linked) had to illegally steal bodies from cemeteries to continue his studies for example.
I'm sure there are other factors (like wars, droughts,...) that contributed to the regression/delay during those ages but church and its phobia towards anything that was open/liberal-minded surely wasn't innocent.
Anyway, I'm not an archeologist in any way and this is not a thread about history. But I think the fact that people went from having saunas and sewerage to throwing their sh** on the street is mindblowing, which is again totally on topic
