you just have to repeat it over and over and over again and the world believes it.
brainwash effect.
same goes with art or who's bad and who's good.
people believe so many things without asking why.
it's time to wake up and let the light in.

I only like a few songs from each so I voted for the 'Becky G' option

I think it's clear both of them were a bit narcisstic

Michael Jackson. He's sold more around the world, had higher attended tours, was a world class dancer and choreographer, pioneered music videos, gave more to charity - all while being massacred by the media, to an extant Madonna has never known.
Single example: Bad Tour: 100% Live Singing. Superb MJ-level dancing. Madge could never.
And LOL at someone suggesting Rock With You (disco funk) sounds the same as Billie Jean (R&B), or Smooth Criminal (dance-pop), or Black or White (rock, new jack swing). Can we not with the delusion, thanks. Madonna was certainly more outrageous and overall more musically diverse, but the idea Michael's quality either wavered or was stagnant is laughable. Off The Wall -> Thriller -> Bad -> Dangerous -> HIStory -> Blood On The Dancefloor; these albums don't all have the same sound by a long shot, and three of them have sold more than any Madge record (HIStory too if you're counting units).

Obviously MJ. He is far more talented and just because something seems more varied, it doesn't mean it's better ![eli's_rhythm](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRL_Smilies_All/atrlers/eli_zps0932edf9.gif) But to me MJ music is extremely varied, he experimented with nearly all genres. He is also the greatest performer of all time.
I am not downplaying Madonna, I think she is a great artist but she is not on the level of Michael at all.

It’s undeniable: Jackson spent his entire solo career repeating his own music, the same formula over and over again. His catalog is musically limited. There is nothing “artistic” about repeating the same formula or redoing the same things, especially if the purpose is to achieve the same commercial success as in the days of yore.
On the other hand, Madonna’s musical catalog is endlessly superior, richer and more varied than Michael Jackson’s. Madonna’s body of work is a reflection of her creativity, she truly has an artistic soul. Not only has she changed the direction of her musical work in every step she took, but she also took real artistic risks rarely seen in the business.
It’s rather perplexing how Madonna’s incredible artistic endeavors are overlooked, while Jacskon who repeated his formual is praised and referred to as “amazing”. What’s amazing about singing the same music and performing them the same way for 20 years? Madonna, at the peak of her fame and commercial success (with the Blond Ambition) was transitioning into her Erotica Era! That is what’s called a real artistic and creative risk! Madonna has always created different ways of expressing herself while poking the society at the same time.
People mistake their personal taste with reality. For those who disagree with the fact that Madonna is far superior to Michael Jackson, argue this:
Rock With You, Beat it, Thriller, Billie Jean, Bad, Smooth Criminal, Remember the Time, Black or White, You Rock My World… they are all great, but no one can deny they all sound the same (and these are songs from 1979 to 2001). In comparison, Madonna’s delivered Lucky Star, Into the Groove, Papa Don’t Preach, La Isla Bonita, Like a Prayer, Vogue, Erotica, Secret, Ray of Light, Music - you can’t get a catalog richer than that.
Madonna’s body of work is endlessly superior to Michael Jackson’s. Let their music speak for itself.

Everything i wanted to say, some people use MJ to downplay Madonna, because in their minds, he was more suscce./or better and because they can't use their real favorite against Madonna, i'm a Rock fan and there's no doubt that Madonna is by far the greatest Pop star of all times, even Janet Jackson is a better artist than MJ, i mean the Velvet Rope/Ray of Light>>>>>>>>>MJ's discography.

Madonna and Michael Jackson (as well as several others) are among my two favorite artists of all time!!!
However Madonna has always been Number 1 for me
On a side note i find it kind of strange how members of a certain fanbase have run into this thread and are using the poll as an excuse to diminish Madonna's achievements and make statements like 'Madonna isn't even that artistic'. I mean you guys do realise that Madonna is probably one of your fave's main inspiration?

-Who was the star that was surrounded in awful allegations?
-Who was the star that has constantly changed their appearence due the pressure of fame?
- Who was the star that almost went bankrupt?
-Who was the star that went on television to talk about how there was a plot against him in America?

You can talk about the days of yore where michael inflated his sales with discounts all you like. At the end of the day Madonna is a better musicican, a better artist, a better performer (she has versatility), a better singer (she sings her stuff live mostly) she's a better parent AND a stronger person.

You are so pressed that you have to drag his personal life into who is better ARTISTICALLY ![lmao](http://atrl.net/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/lmao.gif)
Even Madonna knows it's MJ.

- Who is recognized worldwide as one of the most talented and influential dancers ever?
- Who has won far more awards than any other artist in history, including more American Music Awards than anyone else?
- Which artist has sales only behind Elvis Presley and The Beatles?
- Which artist was inducted into the RnR Hall Of Fame twice?
- Who set the record for most Grammys won in a single night?
- Whose posthumous concert movie is the highest grossing in history?
- Who is recognized by Guinness World Records as having supported more charities than any other celebrity, including co-writing We Are The World, which sold 20 million copies and raised almost $70 million for charity?
- Who had higher attendances to tours in the 80s and 90s than today's larger grossing tours?
- Who is the only artist to have three albums sell over 30 million copies, and five albums over 20 million?
- Who is the artist with the best selling album ever by over 15 million copies and best selling remix album ever?
- Who is the artist whose estate owns more music royalties than any other person in history has ever owned?
- Who is the artist who Madonna personally described at the 2009 VMAs as "...so unique, so original, so rare. And there will never be anyone like him again. He was a king." In fact it might do you some good to see the person you hold in higher regard speak about Michael.
If it takes you having to bash Michael to make Madonna seem more deserving of this ATRL poll then it's as pathetic as your online repertoire of Gaga-hating images and gifs. And Michael's surgeries were more likely as a result from childhood issues, but the idea you can compare Madge's dealing with fame to Michael's when his began when he was 11 makes zero sense, let alone parenting and "stronger person" statuses.
As an aside - the "plot" you're talking about was by Sony Corp to sabotage Michael's record Invincible to try and force him to sell his 50% Sony/ATV stake and Michael's lawyers were successful in proving it allowing him exit his contract early as a result.

Madonna.
I like her more because she took risks, provoked discussion about taboo subjects and overall just made smarter records. The artistic value in something like Ray of Light >>> anything by Michael, for me anyway. He just wasn't smart enough to keep me interested.
It does have to be said though - he made three of the best pop albums ever with Off The Wall, Thriller and Bad before they became bloated and lost Quincy Jones (not to mention becoming detached from any kind of reality).
I find the comparison baseless, to be honest - they are both pop artists, and will always be the King and Queen of Pop, but they were very different artists. MJ was more focused on entertainment - everything was about image and what basically amounted to propaganda from the mid-'90s onwards. Madonna didn't care if she was liked, and was more willing to get in people's faces and experiment regardless of the consequences. Same medium, different message.

MJ - sonically, visually, as a person, artistically. He's infinitely better. His career was built upon talent and Madonna's career was built over shock value, 'cause she is not exceptionally talented. She is smarter than he was, though.

I prefer Madonna, I love MJ but I think he is a little overrated because of his death.
This thread is a mess.

You better preach the gospel TRUTH!
Also 750 M Records WW >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 250-300 M Records WW. That alone is an indicator as to what level of success MJ had!
