This is true but it kinda reminded me of a few radio djs asking him the same question back when he was promoting 'Do You Know (The Ping Pong Song)' and even more heaped him with praise when he served them a ballad with his next release. Yet despite a huge radio tour and TV performances 'Somebody's Me' didn't do anything.
'Heart Attack' was something of a quasi-ballad and is the only one of his current singles we can say he really pushed, performing it on a number of high profile shows like Good Morning America, Dancing with the Stars, X-Factor USA to name a few as well as the slew of Jingle Balls he did and yet it did less well than 'Turn The Night Up'
Remember when the Z100 DJs where questioning him about releasing ballads Enrique actually called them out on it saying something like "you guys don't play ballads" which as they pointed out isn't true. What he should have said is "you guys don't play
MY ballads"
This isn't a recent trend by any means it goes back all the way through 'Addicted' to the single version of 'Maybe' - heck I don't think 'Hero' would have nearly as successful if it hadn't been adopted as a post 9/11 anthem.
I think there's a lot of people out that like Enrique's romantic music and aren't shy of saying so but they obviously don't like it
enough to actually buy it. Same with these radio djs that continually ask him about ballads but then don't play them.
I know it's not really that clear cut. 'Somebody's Me' in particular might have done more if it had been released anytime but that Summer and while I don't think it made that much difference but Enrique acting as if he didn't care for it couldn;'t have helped. I wouldn't mind him taking another spin at the wheel but it would have to be the right kind of ballad and prefaced with a single that radio really took to. If 'Beautiful' featured a singer more known in the US I'd suggest giving it a whirl - at least I hope they do something with it in the US even if it's just the low key promo Kylie did with her last album.
