As far as I know BTW was seen as a disappointment at almost every aspect. It did sell well, but it was largely driven by The Fame era. Wasn't it that 25% of her album sales in the US were due to heavy discount? However you look at it- sales, fans, video views, public interest, awards- all went down during that time, right when everything for Katy was going up.
Let's not forget the heavily mocked "reductive" BTW single and video, whose sales were super front loaded.
I like Gaga a lot but who she is now is far distant than how she was initially perceived. I truly think that if she could get back to what made her famous she could return to how she was.
