Columbia/Sony still own the master copies to the album. The only thing I can see is the Pepsi deal allowed her to front a lot of the album and video costs, therefore letting her do more of the album she wants to do, but the label still gets a nice chunk of change. They're the ones who are distributing and promoting it, promoting the singles to radio, etc.

Nowhere did I say Columbia makes no money from this. She is getting a bigger cut than she normally would have due to Pepsi's involvement therefore cutting out her overhead for costs that would normally have to be paid back to the label for the advances spent on writers/producers/studio time/video production/promotion.
I do think she is jockeying for position to be in complete control and that is evident in a lot of her recent maneuvers.
