Jesus, there are artists that are popular outside of America, you know.
For example, I could make a strong case for Shakira being the queen of pop in 2006 and not Furtado. Hell, I could make the case for Madonna in 2005. Yes, even against Mariah. Yes, I said it.

So in your view a queen only needs one successful hit?
even Beyoncé was more popular than Shakira in 2006. + People were getting sick
of Hips Don't lie. 100% that in 2006 Nelly was the Queen.

If the song was a once-in-a-lifetime, truly massive hit, then yes, you have the right to be called "Queen", especially in Madonna's case. Even though "Sorry" was actually a big hit too, "Hung Up" was a ginormous hit.
As for Shakira, hell, it's not like she had no other hits from V2. "Don't Bother" was a hit around the globe. But "Hips Don't Lie" was one of the biggest songs *OF ALL TIME* during its run. And, lets face it, as well as Furtado has done, she didn't have a #1 single on the United World Chart like Shakira did.
Now, Shakira vs Beyonce, that is just a teeny bit more debatable. But all i'm doing is simply stating my cases, that's all.

Yeah.. I can't believe with all of Nelly's success she hasn't been able to pull a #1 on the World Chart

Alright, lets go.
nope..Shakira did horrid with Fijacion oral Vol 1 in ths Latin markets, and well FOV2 before hips dont lie almost flopped....even though the song was overplayed did not help that much and FOv2 is way to far from looose sucess... fov2 has sold 4 million albums since 2005 [71 weeks ] while Loose has sold 5.2 million [43 weeks]..even on 2006 Loose had 2 solid hits while Shakira only one
and well madonna did a great job overseas on 2005 selling more than 6 million albums [+1.6 on USA] while Mariah sold an impressive amount of almost 6 million albums on the States and more tan 3 million albums overseas

Did you read my last post at all? Well, probably not, but bear with me here. First of all, I wasn't talking about V1. And besides, that was released in 2005, anyway! I'm talking about the year 2006, get with the program!
Secondly, "Don't Bother" was a top five hit on the UWC. I don't understand why everyone talks about HDL being the only hit from V2 when "Don't Bother" was a pretty big hit around the globe. This bothers me so ****ing much.
The album numbers don't lie(pun not intended, damnit), but there's also no denying that Shakira had the bigger hit single. I still say you could switch the two around and it wouldn't exactly be wrong either way.

That's actually some very interesting numbers. It obviously says that Mariah is a bigger force here, but Madonna is a bigger force worldwide, especially when you consider that Madonna released Confessions well after Mariah released Mimi. It could make for a decent debate.

yor're right and wrong at the same time... its true that mariah singles didn't that great overseas and her album nearly sold the half of what madonna did... but madonna failed to put more than one hit on the states, hung up was massive worldwide but mariah did a better comeback from some points that you see...2005 was one of the year when 4 women were at top of hte charts, Madonna, mariah , gwen Stefani and kelly C, Gwen and madonna did it great overseas while mariah and Kelly C did it wonderfull on the States...will need more time to analyze that year

So basically, we are just about 100% agreed. You can't argue with facts.
Haha, all of this talk about sales and chart success is making my head spin.
