Nudity shows vulnerability - which is what the song is about. Stop being so mainstream and hate Miley just because she breaks the image you have of her.
I agree that the nudity was done wrong, but it wasn't unnecessary.

I could've done without her licking the hammer (I mean eww ), and her saliva strings were kinda distracting in the beginning. But it was a nice video overall 
Don't know if her being naked and overtly sexual in an emotional ballad will help or hurt the song in the long run though. She's already got enough controversy and backlash at this point...
