I guess I should update this eventually lmao
Artist Of The Year
Ghostface Killah
Ghost's work ethic was ahead of everyone's this year. just when you think he's done for the year with the March release of Fishscale, he comes out with More Fish in December. two albums in a year! and no slouching at all, since he steps it up for both. expect ghost to continue at a great pace with the release of the GFK/MF Doom colabo album sometime in the year, another Wu-Tang Clan album due out in August, and another full fledged GFK album out in the fall.
Runner Up:
Lupe Fiasco
did great on his Fahrenheit 1/15 mixtapes, and of course his amazing album. easily the best new artist of the year.
Person Of The Year
Stephen Colbert
what a huge year Colbert had. Truthiness becomes a word, he gets his own bridge in Europe, gets an Eagle named after himself, has George Lucas do the Green Screen Challenge, "fights" with the Decemberists, among many, many other things. of course the highlight of the year was his speach at the White House Correspondents Dinner, which took major balls for him to say that stuff so close to the President.
it's insane to think his show, The Colbert Report, has been on for only a year and he has done all this stuff. the Report is also a much funnier show then the Daily Show now, which only has Jon as it's saving grace at the moment since everyone else who was funny left (Colbert, Carell, Helms, Corddry, etc).
I don't see what Colbert could do to top himself, but I'm sure he'll find something.
Runner Up:
Chris Hansen
for the insanely addictive To Catch A Predator specials on Dateline. If it was a weekly series, I would make it appointment television. if they got a new host for the special, it wouldn't be nearly as good. Hansen does such an amazing job that the Emmy's should nominate him for such bold and great work. hopefully there are more of the specials in 2007.
#1 up
SOON!!!!!
