And in Starships' case... Well, she fudged up her opportunities to make it by becoming the most disliked figure in the industry this year. Everything from Stupid Hoe, to the Grammys performance (which wasn't even what she was releasing the next day, which was stupid, to begin with...) led to it all. That is to say, she wouldn't have made it around fun and Gotye either way...

That's impressive, although hasn't 50 Cent only had 3 #1s as a lead artist (In Da Club, 21 Questions and Candy Shop)? Unless on Crack a Bottle all three of them were joint lead artists maybe.

Super Bass went top 10 on urban, so that song appealed to the "hood" people, and she definitely was NOT acting ghetto or tough on it. Moment 4 Life was one of the biggest songs in the urban world last year, and she wasn't ghetto or tough on that song either...

That's not the problem. Starships has ZERO urban elements in it at all. That's the problem.

She is the most disliked artist out there atm (previously it was Justin Bieber, but he's more liked now).

There's people like Taio Cruz who have hardly any fans, but hardly anybody really hates them either.

Sorry to say, but she's had a lot of negative publicity since August of last year. In reality, a lot of people are under the impression that she's copying Lady Gaga in terms of fashion and performance style. It really started with the VMAs, and the Grammys served to exacerbate it.
