This is just stupid.

Of course a kids whose last words are a Lady Gaga lyric are going to catch the attention of the Monsters and Gaga herself more than a random suicide. Some becomes martyrs and some go quietly due to them not wanting attention or their family wanting quiet and respect.

Every circumstance is different. If the world gasped every time a kid committed suicide then we would do nothing else. It only takes ONE to make a difference, the point is something is being done.

Some of the responses in here are disgusting. How can some of you be so insincere? There are issues that are far more important than arguing if Gaga is an attention ***** in a thread like this.

And I believe that a law could work. Kids generally don't want to break the law, and the punishment must be severe enough to dissuade bullying. If it's illegal to even shout "Fire!" in a movie theatre, it should be illegal to say no one will care if you die." this is not an issue of freedom of speech. This is about hatred and death.

And to those who say a law would never work or would never be created / enforced, i ask, why? All major laws start like this and rise in the public's attention and gains more support. Gaga is raising more awareness and support and if you think that is tired and wrong, then you have serious issues.

I guess I could understand how some people are unsure if they live outside the US, since I know that Americans have a very high sense of efficacy compared to many other places. But still, there is no reason at all why one should be against this.

Everyone has their basic freedoms in America, we cannot control what each other say. When what you say becomes what you do then action can be taken.

I feel like laws on bullying should just be a more GENERAL form of this.

You make a statement that hurts someone, or offends them (which can be categorized as bullying) --> not a crime

You punch someone because you don't like them (also can be categorized as bullying) --> crime.
