They wanted to crown the current queen of pop. Why would they go back more than a few years? If they started a decade ago, then Britney would probably be closer to the top, if not at the top. But this isn't about the past.

As much as I love Gaga, I don't think she should have such a title...yet. She's one of the hottest Pop stars that are out now, but titling somebody as the Queen of Pop is big.
And a big congrats to Britney and Beyonce. 13 years into their careers and they can still run with the big musical acts of the current times effortlessly.
God, people get so hung up on titles. They're basically saying Gaga has been the biggest thing in the pop game for the period of the past 2-3 years. They didn't lie. Y'all act like there's going to be an official ceremony or something.
