not too sure what you're trying to get at here.. i understand that album sales have taken a massive hit over the past decade. this should only make gaga's sales look more impressive regardless of this amazon deal. it would still be selling close to a million with it! i feel like people always try to find some sort of negativity with gaga and her music, sales and image. shouldn't we be glad that albums are still able to sell over a MILLION in their first week?

1. music sales declined severely.

2. britney was THE star in he prime. when you are THE star, consistency is difficult. the world cannot stay obsessed with you forever. eventually mass interest wears off, and you're still able to sell based on your name + legacy, but never like when you commanded everyone's attention.

To compare opening week sales is also completely useless. Janet and Mariah were as huge in the 90's as Gaga is right now and they NEVER had huge opening week sales.

I think it's how the marketing and promotion change by the time. it was "easy" to get 1M fist week sales back in 2000 and it is "easy" now as well

Hot names top the 600-700k zone easily today so using the 2000's excuse is not valid.

Yes, less people do it today but enough of them are.

And even though more people sold alot in 2000's, Britney did more than they have so she out did everyone in that time and fact is no one reached her till now so saying it was 2000's and making her record less valid is stupid.

As for GaGa, about half of her sales are coming from the 1$ sales, it's not that rest of the 500k sales are not impressive but I'm sure that artists that pulled 600k+ in the last year or two would have gone 1m+ with that kind of disscount so it's hard for me to go crazy over her going 1m+ cuz' it wasn't done in the regular way of lets say big name + hits + lots of promo.

We all know that money is one of the main issues for people not buying albums and why singles are storming the music industry in the past years and selling millions of copies when albums struggle to hit 1m so giving people an album in a price of a single?

I don't point fingers at GaGa or her label but I just can't be all impressed with it.

Those artists did have discounts, Taylor Swift had a 3.99 discount the whole week, Rihanna had a 99 cent deal, etc. Its just people are more interested when Gaga has discounts than when others do

Youre also assuming that out of the ~450 k amazon buyers that none of them were preorders and none of them had the intent to buy the album. Im willing to say that Gaga would have sold at least 800k without the .99 cent deal
