The race of ancient Egyptian is undetermined and remains a point of controversy. Many historians claim they were white Middle Easterns, many claim they were black.
You can't just claim that dreadlocks are African culture just because you believe that Ancient Egyptians were black. There's also many pointers indicating that dreadlocks first started in Ancient India.
This is just ridiculous. Let people wear things they want to wear, nobody should have a monopoly on certain clothing.
It is truly the most ridiculous thing ever.
I mean I understand the issue of afro Americans and their hair with jobs and such but why to criticize anyone using that same hair. If anything they should fight against the corporations not allowing that hairstyle instead of the people.
Sjws need a better focus because they are becoming the world's laughing stock
Black people literally created refrigerators, traffic lights, irons, combs, clothing dryers, rap music etc. My life would be a mess if I couldn't use the things that were claimed by black people first.
Enough with the racial monopoly. Let's talk about history and recognize each culture while sharing with each other, the two things don't have to be contradictory.

Oh dear. Do your research and you'll understand that the reason why the racial makeup of Ancient Egypt is a subject of contention, is merely due to fact that the existence of an advanced black civilisation threatened the white supremacist fallacy that mandated colonisation. The white washing of Egypt was century long ordeal and is pervasive in academia and education so of course some Historians would believe Ancient Egypt was white. White supremacists had a leg up in rewriting history.
Do you think that it's a coincidence that the noses on the majority of Ancient Egyptian artefacts have mysteriously vanished? No they were clearly vandalised because they didn't corroborate the white washed agenda.
People still failing to realise the issue with this
The PROBLEM is when black people are degraded, called ugly, laughed at and even sent home from their jobs/schools for these hairstyles yet when white people do it, it's cool, edgy and gets praised. On top of that, credit is never given and the hairstyle gets renamed as if it was there creation. This is the issue and if you're not black and you have a problem with any of that, guess what? Black people do not give one ounce of a **** for your white tears.

Despite motive, Ancient Egyptians are still not objectively considered to have been black, it still remains an unsettled debate.
Even if they were, it still wouldn't be cultural appropriation. Current African-American culture originates from countries like Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Kenya, Senegambia, Gold Coast, etc. Not ancient Egypt.
Having the same race does not necessarily equate to having the same culture.
What's more funny is that some white people are so narcissistic to believe they had the capacity to rule Egypt when they are burnt to the crisp during any extended period under the sun. That don't make no sense.

It's settled for people who are informed. White Egypt is a political creation, and it was perpetuated by white hollywood so now unfortunately some people take it as fact. It's fantasy. Before colonisation, the description of Ancient Egypt by neighbouring civilisations were described as black.
"Prior to Europe's involvement with Egypt, the people of Ancient Egypt had many names for their country such as 'Ta Mery' (the beloved land), 'Ta Sety' (the land of the bow) which was used for the southern most regions of the country and Nubia (see below). Another name was 'Kemet', which means 'the black land'." http://www.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/dept...tualkemet/faq/
Greek historian (Born 484 BC) was not confused regarding the race of Egyptians either - "The People Of Colchis Must Be Egyptians Because Like Them They Are Black-skinned And Wooly-haired."
As for the culture appropriation. Lets not be dense here. Context matters. In the western world, dreadlocks are associated to black culture. Blacks are the only race that has hair that naturally locks. White people don't have the texture for locks, their attempts just result matted.

This was about you connecting Ancient Egypt dreadlocks to your culture, not which race has the "texture" for locks. I am hypothetically viewing your point about Ancient Egypt being black as a fact, how is that related to current African-American culture in any way, shape or form?
Race does not necessarily equate to culture, and in this case of Ancient Egypt, it certainly doesn't. And the truth remains that, African-Americans acquired their culture from the regions they settled/migrated from, such as Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Kenya, Senegambia, Gold Coast, etc. Not Ancient Egypt.
This entire fiasco is a thing quite literally due to claims of "cultural appropriation" - Ancient Egypt, where dreads allegedly started, is the a culture different from yours.
It's fine if you think white people don't have the texture for dreads, I still don't see that as a valid point for a modeling enterprise to prevent its models (a predominantly white industry <80%>, where by default many white models have to demonstrate varied cultures) from wearing dreadlocks due to them allegedly not having suitable "texture" and/or "appropriating" a culture that didn't even contrive dreadlocks.

This is also highly prejudicial and seems like it comes from a place of deep hostility. I'm glad the moderators took care of it.

In the 10th century BC, the Solomonic Dynasty of Ethiopia was founded by Menelik I, the son of Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, who had visited Solomon in Israel. 1 Kings 10:13 claims "And King Solomon gave unto the Queen of Sheba all her desire, whatsoever she asked, beside that which Solomon gave her of his royal bounty. So she turned and went to her own country, she and her servants." On the basis of the Ethiopian national epic, the Kebra Negast, Rastas interpret this as meaning she conceived his child, and from this, they concluded that the black people are the true children of Israel, or Jews. Beta Israel black Jews have lived in Ethiopia for centuries, disconnected from the rest of Judaism; their existence gave some credence and impetus to early Rastafarians, validating their belief that Ethiopia was Zion.

In Rastafari, your body is considered your temple, so you need to really take good care of yourself. Part of this can be seen in the philosophy of the Ital diet. However, it goes much further than just eating good food to take care of your health. Rastafari believe that they should let their hair grow long and not taint it with anything unnatural. This all comes down to respecting your body and what it is. You don’t cut your hair, tattoo your skin, or eat bad food. In fact some Rastas have cited this as the reason they don’t smoke ganja. Some feel for them personally it’s not good for their health.

Sis. Dreads are no more linked to a specific african culture than an Afro or cornrows are. They are all natural consequences to the texture of black people's hair. It's not some innovative creation.
And I've already said that I appreciate Marc's attempt at diversity and having his cast reflect the demography of America. However I also said that if his shows are so inspired by black, black women should be at the forefront. This is not the first time Marc has tried to white wash black culture. Last year Marc sent his white models down the runway in Bantu knots and tried to rename them minibuns.
And it was just a reminder so you can take it down a notch babe
