With no promo and a release so soon after Loud I think these numbers are quite good. Well done Rihanna! How many artists out there can announce a new album out of the blue on twitter three months before and drop it without any promo to land no.3 on Billboard as well as no1. in other countries. The girl did good! God bless her.
This album will have outsold this figure 10x over by this time next year.

I don't know if this is brand new informaiton to you but the sole purpose of releasing singles/music videos it to HELP with the longevity of the album sales

You don't know what she will sell in the longrun though. Her sales are the most inconsistent of any major popstar. GGGB to Rated R was a drop, then a boost with Loud, and now what? We don't know yet.

Interesting.

People overpredicted Loud's first week sales too.

How come Nickel can sell much more than rihanna...
She got so many top singles, and her big name is US alone with WFL smashing no.1 for weeks & sales on black friday week, really no clue.
No doubt longevity is her strongest advantage.

Final sales > First week sales.
|
Why would you expect these numbers for ANYONE on their 6th album, coming off their most successful era, leading in with a smash #1 & on Black Friday?
Her final sales are what matters but there's no denying that those 1st week #s are embarrassing for Rih, for anyone.

You might just wanna quit it because it doesn't look like its going to outsell anything at this rate.
Hope for Loud 2.0 all you want but hope doesn't guarantee anything.

Is the last thing I'll say.

Most albums do about 5x-7x their opening numbers.

It's not really impressing when you have to rack up at least 3 #1's to sell 1.6 million copies.
