Rated R was released like nine months after the incident though. And still all the Rihanna news that year seemed to revolve around that event (naturally though because it was quite scandalous). Anyway I'm not arguing that Rihanna wasn't in the news. I know she was.
And I still don't get your points. Rihanna released an album at the end of 2011 and another one in 2012, so of course Beyonce on her break wouldn't get as much press as Rihanna, but she still got as much if not more non-music related news (and yes I know it's because of her pregnancy, but news is news).

I doubt the general public even remembers Britney was on the Superbowl though. I personally didn't know until it was pointed out on ATRL.
