Sales don't determine everything there are many other factors that come into play for something being iconic. What Beyonce missed in chart positions she reaped with higher digital sales, more youtube views, accolades, getting accredited for a dance craze, bigger cultural impact, more recurrent airplay etc....

Did I not just show you how "Toxic" was a bigger hit WW?
It went top 10 in 100% of the countries possible. "Single Ladies" went top 10 in 50% of the countries possible. How is "Toxic" less widespread?
- The digital sales aren't comparable due to the boom in the digital market. The top selling single from 2008 in America is the best-selling digital single ever. The best-selling single of from 2004 has only sold 4 million copies despite a decade of catalogue sales
- The video views aren't comparable because Youtube came to prominence in 2006 and then blew up in 2008, with it growing since then.
- Toxic has so many more accolades than SL
- You're right here. But SL was only one of countless dance crazes. Was Soulja Boy not the first artist to have a 5x platinum single thanks the dance craze for "Crank That?"
- Single Ladies had more dance covers. Toxic has been sampled more, has influenced more songs and has been covered more. Toxic has a considerably bigger cultural impact.
- Recurrent airplay is based on the fall of a current single from radio prominence. For example, when P!nk's "Just Give Me a Reason" began to fall on radio, "Who Knew" gained a considerable amount of airplay. Now that Eminem's "The Monster" is falling on radio, "The Real Slim Shady" is getting great recurrent airplay.
Recurrent airplay is dependent on CURRENT success. ATRL has no concept of this

I also never said white people's taste doesn't count. I said that (since most of this site is white) ATRL often ONLY counts the taste/likes/interests of white people, while disregarding other demographics. Maybe you should re-read my comments because I never said anything you're implying.

You implied that the white people are leaving out the world's tastes yet statistics seem to show that "Toxic" was the bigger hit WW.

It crossed over to pop "effortlessly" because it is a pop song. It's generic 2008 dance pop.

Bitch, that doesn't prove anything beside the fact that you live under a rock and obviously haven't been exposed to a brilliant videography.
