The pop/rock era was amazing, that's what I grew up as a young kid in, I'm 15 now and I wish we could go back five years, because as much as I love Katy, Ke$ha, and Britneys current music, nothing can top old Kelly, old Pink, and old Avril.
Sadly I agree. It will get over shadowed, BUT thats what I think the whole August/Sept thing is. She is most likely performing the song at the VMAs then the song will go on itunes in early September. Kind of like what What The Hell did
Unless she closes the show (Amy tribute is already confirmed to open), she'll get lost in the shuffle.

Um you are aware that she is going to be performing amongst Gaga who will SLAY the itunes once she performes as she always does, now we have Adele who will do the same, add Bruno, then put the Britney songs that will rise, and finally the Amy songs RIP. I dont think it matters how established her fan base is, its going to be hard as heck to get that number 1 right away. It may take a couple days after the VMA after math.

I think Kelly's in a good place. Kelly's competition are already on their 3/4 singles. Their core fans have already purchased the album and singles. With a new management team in RCA, I will hope they are planning good things to start their new reign right.
