Sexually explicit?
Katniss Everdeen has the sex appeal of an avocado.
Violence, I get. But it's not unsuited to the age group. A lot of the story's elements do appeal to young adults. Like the fact that the characters are teenagers, for example. The romantic aspect. The whole "reality TV" thing. The witty dialogue. The life lessons the books teach us (bravery, loyalty, love, change, good, evil, what our world can turn into, etc.)
Dead at Twilight, though. The only reason I can think of is the pedophilic werewolves.
aside from the poorly structured plot, dry characters and bad writing

Article about Woody Harrelson
Quote:
When it comes to Suzanne Collins' "The Hunger Games," few characters are as darkly comic as Haymitch Abernathy, the jaded, seen-too-much type who once won the macabre "hunger games" competition and reluctantly guides Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark in their own bid for survival.
There are several ways to go with a wizened mentor: You could play washed-up for drama or for laughs. Woody Harrelson, who incarnates Abernathy in Gary Ross' upcoming film adaptation, said he pushed in the direction of laughs as often as possible.
"It was my objective to give the character as much comedy as I could without it seeming not to fit," Harrelson told 24 Frames. "I tried to take a certain comedic aspect and give a sense, through that, that he's been through a lot and is anesthetizing himself as a result of that."
Harrelson said that, even when he was playing Haymitch straight, he tried to put a more original twist on the character, particularly when it came to his look. "I didn't want it to feel like just because he's an alcoholic that he would look just like any bum on the street. So there are things that go against your expectation of what a washed-up guy would look like," he said, somewhat cryptically.
The film, which stars Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, Liam Hemsworth as her hunting partner/love interest Gale Hawthorne and Joshua Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark, her fellow competitor, is in post-production now. It's scheduled for a March 23 release. Some fans might worry that Collins' moody tone won’t survive the transfer to the screen, especially as the movie is repositioned as an all-ages crowd-pleaser. But Harrelson said that fans shouldn't fret.
"The essence of the book is going to be in the film," Harrelson said, adding, "It's something we've never seen before. We have the best wardrobe, the best costume people, the best makeup people. There's a level of commitment to innovation that [filmgoers] have never seen. I think they're going to be very pleasantly surprised by it."

Jesus, I just adore Haymitch. I think this guy is going to do a great job. (He better. If he ****s up my favorite character, I swear...) lol. jk. I know he'll do great. Tbh, he's the one I'm most excited for. Even more than Peeta or Cinna or Gale or the fan favorites. When people ask if I'm Team Peeta or Gale I just tell them to shut up since this isn't Twilight (but then say LOL JK! Team Haymitch forever )
Cannot WAIT to see a Haymitch teaser

I finished Mockingjay yesterday, which means I read the entire trilogy in less than a month. Catching Fire is my absolute favorite and The Hunger Games a very close second. I was honestly a bit dissapointed by Mockingjay. It felt like she rushed the story and I wish she would have taken more time to tie the loose ends together. All in all, a superb trilogy and I really enjoyed it. Thanks for hooking me up girls!
Now bring that movie because I'm hella excited! I shall be the first to pre-order midnight premiere tickets!

District 8, REPRESENT!!!! lol
There's kind of been an ongoing debate about the industry of a lot of the districts. Most are unknown in the story.
For example:
District 5...some people say it's DNA research, others say power.
For six, some people say Medicine, others say transportation.
Either way, I'm going with what Panemoctober says, for now. lol.
Still... DISTRICT EIGHT PRIDE!!!
Even though the only important people from my district either die or are idiots (who eventually die). D;

According to MTV, next week we're getting a Josh Hutcherson interview about Peeta and The Hunger Games.
I cannot wait!!!!
There's also a rumor that we're getting a trailer soon. But I don't know if it's just trolling or a legitimate fact.

It's a bit sad yet hilarious how true this pie chart is
I'm guilty of associating Peeta with bread and vice versa.

HE. IS. FLAWLESS!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm just so excited.
This is exactly how I pictured Haymitch (except, a little grimier. But it's just the poster, so I get it.)
And little Rue!!!
I don't like the picture of Gale, but I love the EW ones, so it's all good. Peeta and Cato's posters look too much alike. (I wish we'd gotten Clove)
But, who cares! We got Haymitch, ya'll!!

Some new photos:
Courtesy of Vanity Fair
(Clove, Marvel, Foxface, Thresh, Glimmer, Cato, Rue, Peeta, Katniss...and Gale) I love Gale...but he's VERY random standing in the line of tributes.
This worries me...They're going to play up the love triangle! Arghhh. It's just...it's so unimportant. Why!?!? Ughh.
Jennifer is stunning.
I'm also totally fangirling at the last photo. First picture of Josh and Jen together. My little shipper heart can't handle this excitement!

I'm scared the three most important characters (Katniss, Gale and Peeta) won't be given justice. I'm not convinced the casts will portray their roles well.

Am I the only one who doesn't think Gale is that important?
I'm kind of annoyed how they're playing him up to be such a main character when he really isn't given more than a few sentences of dialogue in the first book.
Don't get me wrong, I love Gale and I love how his character progressively got more important as the books went on...but the main 3 characters in the first book, in my eyes, are Peeta, Katniss and Haymitch.
Now that my obsessive-fangirlish rant is over, I'll respond to your actual post. XD
When the cast was first announced, I said the exact same thing (though, I always thought Jennifer was a perfect Katniss. Her performance in Winters Bone was incredible.) But the more I saw these guys in interviews and stuff, they more they grew on me. Though it took a long time for me to warm up to Liam. His voice in the trailer won me over. I thought it was perfect. And the EW spread for Gale and Peeta looked perfect, to me. Just how I pictured them. (Though, I pictured Gale a bit darker with longer hair. But that really doesn't matter, as long as Liam portrays him well.)
I get the fears, though. I feel like that before every book-to-screen movie too. But let's just wait for the movie. They might surprise you. I could be wrong and they could totally suck. But I'm just being optimistic. I'd rather just be positive so I can enjoy the movie and the movie news more.
