They're not doing it because they're saying she's white/ Anglo-Saxon. In Japan, white people are incredibly fetishized. They like white people features, and want them on themselves so bad. That doesnt make the character any less asian tho. It's like how you white people steal black people's culture all the time. You can wear it or act it, but it doesnt make you any less white.

The problem with Anime/manga is that many characters are actually not Asian at all, or at least are some kind of European/Asian hybrid. It is undeniable that Anime character design borrows many European genetic features and stylistic references, often making it confusing to fully distinguish race if you ignore the language spoken or setting. For example, the Beserk anime is set in Medieval Europe and everyone is supposed to be caucasian except the main character, yet 90% of the caucasian characters look exactly like any other anime character and all speak Japanese. Ghost in the Shell is another example of containing characters that don't all look/appear to be Asian, despite speaking Japanese in a Japanese setting.

And to the idiot that said Japanese people look like Anime characters, you couldn't be farther from the truth. Not a single asian person on this planet even closely resembles an anime character without body modification. Japanese and Koreans are notorious for getting plastic surgery at young ages to mimic European and anime features. This is a statistical fact, in comparison to US and European clients receiving plastic surgery to reduce the appearance of aging or enhance their... assets.
