Spotify is a tool for pimping other peoples artistry of which the artists benefits very little from. The second thing to mention is they have yet to turn a profit.

Like, they're my favorite group of people in the mainstream music industry.

But there is no way in hell I'm using Tidal unless it gets way cheaper and can give me Beatles.

They don't deserve all of the hate but they don't deserve ANY praise. It's so bland.

yeah the best argument for them is that as artists they work hard and should spotify execs get such a benefit.
However, these artist also get loads of money on endorsements, hawking products, charging a pretty penny for concerts etc. and the consumer is not going to be as sympathetic when they feel as though for all the above mentioned benefits, the consumers get this one benefit that doesn't require illegal downloading and possibly getting in trouble and fined.

Good luck to both services though.

And Jay paid $56M for the company, and it was just valued at $256M. It's doing pretty well so far. I don't think anyone who invested money is going to have any problem getting their money back. They are also going to be introducing a "college discount" as well (taking a page out of Spotify's playbook). The reception can be debated. There were plenty of lovers and supporters. Just because the detractors are louder or making more fuss doesn't mean anything. Time WILL tell.

"valuation" means almost nothing until the company either files an IPO or is being sold.
