If you're insinuating that Beyonce's Vogue cover was the highest selling issue of 2013, then I'm going to have to see a receipt, preferably one from October 2013 or later. There's only one pop girl to have a year end best seller, And that's Gaga, because she was on the cover of the September issue, and the September issue moves about 500K + copies.
If that was written 11 months ago, then that wasn't published after October2013, which is what I asked for. All the links to Beys supposed "best selling Vogue issue of the year" all predate the September issue.

I was thinking about this too. it's not like we're talking about Naomi Campbell or Jourdan.. they are great for singers but nothing close to the fashion royalty.

To answer the OP. I stan for Beyoncé and love both Rih and Bey so much, but Rihanna is the clear winner here.
Beyoncé is a fashion icon. I see somebody mentioned the leotard. Not only did she popularize them in the Single Ladies video. Every woman in the music industry started wearing them after that and continue to do so. It's true that everybody wanted the Manolo Blahnik Timberland heels that she wore in the Bonnie and Clyde video. I noticed when Beyoncé starts to wear a designer other famous women start to wear that designer. I saw an influx of famous women start to wear Balmain after her. When she decided to be a spokeswoman for H&M, the store had a tremendous increase in sales for the line of items she promoted. Beyoncé has a somewhat eclectic style, but she stays in the realms of what is pretty much relatable to all women. She goes from glamour girl, rock chick to hippie. I know it's her thing because she's been doing it since I can remember. I can still remember pics of her from '03 and '04, and she was dressed like a flower child. I think that's where her fashion icon status comes in to play. She dresses how she feels at the moment. Many women want to have that freedom. Friedman missed the point with her article in another way. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is about career achievement, not fashion icon status. The costumes were clearly highlighting special moments in Beyoncé's music career.
