Plus always pay attention to your UNWEIGHTED GPA. Colleges don't care about your 4.8 from APs or whatever. On a normal scale if that's like a 3.5 then great, but if it's like a 3 then the weighted is just ****ing pointless.

Like if you had the top 10% in GPA. Most public schools report this and it shows the colleges that you worked above and beyond your peers.

My high school doesn't report percent tiles 'cause its one of those weird private schools like Exeter and HWL

Yup! Working hard is good. As I'm filling out the Common App this year my only regret is not doing more community service. Like, I've done some, but I really wish that I had done more throughout my high school life. Instead of taking five hours on a weekend to watch TV or some ******** like that I should have driven myself to a shelter or something and done service.

Community service gets you soooo mannyyyy scholarships and things to put on your app

It's accurate. I remember my tutor for a Chem class (for a program I did this summer) told me that she volunteered at a hospital and got like a scholarship that covered her computer costs.

Do letter of recs help too?

and it ultimately depends on the person applying. if you don't have an amazing app you need an amazing GPA to fall back on. its always better to be safe than sorry

plus, any school appreciates over-achievers which results in scholarships and grants

Depends on the letter. Like, only get them from teachers that can say good things about you and genuinely like you. 99% of schools require recommendations so make sure to befriend teachers and ALWAYS work your hardest even if the class is difficult. Sometimes the best letter of recommendation might be from a class you got a C in but you worked hard for and always came in for help.

I'm applying to Vanderbilt right now and they want at least two of the recs to be from core classes (science, math, language, english) and this isn't an irregularity. Music teacher/theatre/etc. recs are great to have, but you might not get the chance to use them as often as a math/science/etc. teacher because of what the universities are looking for.

I'm in Key Club (a community service club organization) but the club is like mixed. Some just join it to get thirsty (like find a date) with a man or woman, some ****boys there and out or just join it to find service opportunities.

Common App was my best friend senior year. It's hassle-free regarding colleges that don't require a separate essay.

If you are in the US, I'd say University of South Florida here in Tampa Bay. I'm working on my Master's in Mass Communications with a concentration in Media Studies and Journalism. I plan to work on my Doctorate and maybe a Fellowship after completing my Master's next summer (I've got a 4.0 GPA about half way through my program).

USF is a great school, and Tampa has great weather year-round (yes, we've had more than our share of rain the last couple of weeks, but that's not the norm) and we have multiple major league sports teams with a ton of stuff to do. I would also recommend the University of Tampa if you think you can get a scholarship, but it's a private school, so keep that in mind.

If you have the opportunity, I would study abroad, as 18-20 year olds are treated far better in 90% of the other countries around the world than they are here in the US. I'm hoping to help get involved in a process to change this, but it will take some time to do it.
