The single sales are the most interesting part though. Single sales have really exploded in the digital age because of the pricing.
truely legendary achievements, i especially like how Madge managed to get 6 albums with sales of over 10 million. That's consistent hugeness. ;D
In fact, Madonna, Celine and Mariah have all 6 albums with sales of 10 million or better. The epic trio smashed so hard, throw in Whitney who also has 6 and you have all relevant female icons doing it. I'm so glad that I lived in the times when all 4 of them smashed the charts. It was like... oh look Madonna has another hit era, Mariah better smash too and when Mariah did it, Celine's fan hoped for their diva to do the same and every single time, they did it.

God, if only all of them could come back and deliver outstanding albums again. I hope the rumour is true about Madonna doing an album full of ballads. ROL was so outstanding, Music was also a+mazing. (Personally, I do worship Hard Candy and MDNA as well - don't get me wrong), but I always wished for Madge to do some great ballads again because unlike so-called critics - I do think that Madonna has a great voice. Look at EVITA, look at ROL.. those ballads were haunting and epic.

Same, Ray of Light was ballads, but it was electronic and experimental enough for me to actually like it. Something To Remember is almost exactly what I wouldn't want from a full album from Madonna (but I've become so obsessed with 'I'll Remember' since it was used on Glee). I also don't want a 80% dance and 20% ballad album like MDNA. The last 3 tracks slow down the momentum too much it's hard to let the album play from beginning to end for me.
I hope Madonna her next album will be 50/50 dance and ballads. She can be great at both. I really hope her next album wil smash the charts again! She really deserves it!
I feel like Madonna will end up outselling MJ in the end, if her next few records constitute a resurgence similar to ROL, Music, and Confessions; I also believe that they will remain the two most successful solo pop artists of all time due to their volume of albums sales.
It will be interesting to see if artists like Rihanna do ever actually pass them in records sold due to the advent of the digital age, but it looks like album sales will never recover enough for anyone to surpass them overall.
You know those singles sales are INFLATED as hell specially towards the most recents on, right?
Actually, the other source we've found estimating her singles sales has her almost 20 million ahead of where I have her - take into account the fact that not every country has reported updated or full singles sales for her, and you end up seeing that my estimations for her singles aren't that inflated at all.
Albums are a totally different story and I refuse to change the ones for which I've provided a source.
