Z100: INTERVIEW
Host: Everyone’s been talking about the return of Miley Cyrus today. She just re-released her album ‘My Truth’ and she’s here with us today. Pleasure to see you Miley!
Miley: It feels so good being back.
Host: So tell me… why now?
Miley: Because it’s the right time. The label and I feel like this is the time to come back and finish what we started, because it would be unfortunate to just leave the album like we did last year.
Host: Did you know this moment was going to happen?
Miley: Absolutely. We knew since the day Revolution Records was on hiatus that I’d be back. It’s just the timing and the schedule kept changing… but here we are.
Host: We’ve seen so many things from this era last year. You released some music videos, did some really cool performances — how are you going to keep it moving and keep people interested?
Miley: It’s so hard, but it’s so simple — all you have to do is produce quality, standout work. But it’s much easier said than done obviously. My plan is just to show the variety the album has and that I still got the fire in me that I’ve had since “Free Falling” in July. I’m continuing my tour in just a bit and I want to make sure it’s one of the best damn tours out there,
Host: Well right now the album is #1 on iTunes, congratulations for that again.
Miley: Thanks.
Host: But what are you gonna do to keep it there?
Miley: Promote. I really, really want to do well with this album. Last year my singles ended up doing a lot better, but this time I want the album to do most of the talking just because I believe it’s a good album. I have so many different ideas, and I’m just so excited to share them all.
Host: So your new single off the album is “On The Radio” featuring Macklemore. Did you know beforehand it was the comeback single?
Miley: “On The Radio” was going to be a single since the second it was finished writing. Macklemore and I just had that feeling, we knew that this was single-material. It was a song on the album where I wanted it to be radio-friendly, catchy, capture a vast audience, just… very commercial and very good. We planned on performing it for the first time at the Grammy’s last year, but of course things abruptly shook the industry and the label went on a hiatus. But with “On The Radio” it's just one of those songs where you turn up the radio and just get turnt, I mean it’s great.
Host: I see you’ve changed the artwork of your album. Why?
Miley: The originals were a damn mess. Sorry label, I love you… but this is probably a lot better!
Host: Haha let’s hope they don’t get mad now!
Miley: They won’t, they’re cool.
Host: So on this album Revolution Records CEO Georgie Skai really co-produced and co-wrote most of the tracks — what was it like working with him?
Miley: Well we’re always involved together. I love that and I love how nowadays the label CEO’s are not just managing the music, but they’re helping to create the music. It’s just a really cool thing. I don’t know if anyone remembers, but last year I had a little MTV Docu-Series and I think it’s still up on MTV.com. We’re definitely going to try and do something like that since I’m back, really back now.
Host: What’s your favorite album track right now?
Miley: There’s two I actually love — from the Standard Edition I love “Invisible” and from the Deluxe Edition I love “Fake Diamonds”. There’s a lot of passion in this album, and I just feel those two are amongst the most passionate.
Host: Any plans on how many singles you’ll release down the line?
Miley: Well we’re on the third single now, we’ll definitely release a fourth, but we’re not 100% sure on a fifth or sixth really, I’d like to focus more on the touring and the album as a whole a little more.
Host: Well it was great to see you again.
Miley: Yeah, thanks for having me!
Host: Alright Miley’s back and here’s the new single, “On The Radio” with Macklemore.
