42. Zola Jesus - Taiga
Zola Jesus has becoming more and more listener friendly since 2010, and this is probably her most accessible release yet. It's full of Nico-derived melodies with nice lush dark Synth production. Most of the lyrics revolve around dealing with anxiety, and I feel like they're lyrics most people can relate to however, which is a nice bonus.
41. Mariah Carey - Me. I Am Mariah ... The Elusive Chanteuse
This is by far the most shocking album release for me. With the messy singles releases, amazingly wacky album title, and overall trajectory of her career I expected this to be somewhere between Emancipation or E=MC2 level, basically, NOT good. I was proven wrong though, Mariah's biggest influence is herself on this album and she creates songs in all the various styles she's done, from 90s Trance to Disco revival, to Power Ballads, and to late Noughties cutsey Pop fluff. It's all pretty good here though, and the lyrics are some of her strongest in years.
