Pedro's Best Of 2011 [Top 100 Singles (10-01)]
Welcome to my Best Of 2011!
Hello! I know I'm a little late. Unfourtunately, when the "Best Of" time came on, I was very busy with my final exams and tests and I did not have time to finish it, actually I barely started it. Since I'm on my holidays and I have a lot of free time, I decided to do it now (with permition) and Vato (ATRL Moderator) will transfer the thread to the Best Of area once it opens again!
Doing this type of lists take time and a lot of work and dedication, I tried to be as fair as possible with myself.
Today I will be presenting to you the final set of my...
Favorite 100 Singles of last year! Here We Go!
Let's move on to music!
This is probably the most important category, it's really about the music that we are all here and a lot of great tunes were released last year. Believe me, do this Top 100 was so hard, I took more than a month to figure out which song was better, I really had a rough time and even now I'm not sure, I might change one or other while updating the best of! Anyway let's start with ten that almost made the top 100!
| |
Rihanna
We Found Love (feat. Calvin Harris)
Talk That Talk
Pop |
Rihanna decided to release new music by the end of the year and the first single is probably better than everything she got in her last album (Loud). "We Found Love" has this magic energy and this happy feeling attached to it that makes pretty much everyone fall in love with it, the proof? Look at the numbers! It was one of the biggest hits of the past year and of the currently year! She nailed it! Her vocals sound very bright and the production is amazing, it brought something new and fresh to us.
(Seven out of seven singles from Rihanna. // One and only single from Calvin Harris)

Katy Perry
The One That Got Away
Teenage Dream
Pop |
I was very undecided about this and "We Found Love", I couldn't figure out which one was better, but I made this decision and I'm happy with it, because Katy Perry's highest single in my Best Of is the one that is not as generic as all the others, it brings a new side of Katy that people don't usually use but I do, I think this less generic Katy Perry really brings a difference with so much feeling and emotion. I love the sincerity of this song and the video made me love it even more. Lyrically this song is so flawless and the acoustic version helps it even more.
(Three out of three singles from Katy Perry)

Shakira
Rabiosa (feat. Pitbull)
Sale El Sol
Latin Pop |
I was even more undecided about this one. I was thinking about if I prefered the song itself or if I was just letting my stan side speak louder, but I concluded I really prefer it, eventhough every single song in my top 10 has a rate 100/100, they are all flawless. I love the sexy Shakira vocals in the song and this is probably the best song that Pitbull has ever collaborated in, it's so different from all that Pop-Generic things he does, this is latin music, merengue so they call it and it really worked out, Shakira never disappoints and can always be inovative and bring new sounds to the game that's one of the things I love the most about her. You just need the first instrument of the song to start dancing and want to go out go crazy! Oye Shaki I like it mocca!
(One out of three singles from Shakira // Two out of two singles from Pitbull)

Britney Spears
I Wanna Go
Femme Fatale
Pop |
And here we find Britney Spears' first SOLO single. Yeah I really prefer Britney doing it solo than joining other girls, you saw how low "Till The World Ends (Femme Fatale Remix)" stayed! I so love this song, it's so summerish, so fresh, so cool and so in. I think the main reason it was a huge hit (besides no promo) was because the song has it all and was released in the right timing, it stucks in everyone's head and it doesn't get out for a long time! The whistles also help! I really find it ironic how everyone calls it "generic", yet I don't find it generic at all! I must say if my best of were up to be done in April or MAy this song would probably be #1, but well the magic kinda faded, nevertheless still a great and amazing song!
(Three out of six singles from Britney Spears)
| |
Beyoncé
Countdown
4
R&B |
So you thought Beyoncé would never be higher than Britney or Shakira? So did I, but "Countdown" slayed since the moment I heard it my existance. I love the fun and fresh vibe of this song and Beyoncé's vocals are so flawless! She completely owned it with so much originality, the song explores more than an instrument and more than a music style that's so nice. I also love her ghetto verses and the falsettos, everything, everything. I need to say I also love the title of the song because she never mentions it, yet it's a countdown so it makes sense! Super amazing, I want Beyoncé to deliver as she delivered with "4" in her next album.
(Eight out of eight singles from Beyoncé)

Britney Spears
Till The World Ends
Femme Fatale
Pop |
And opening the Top 5 we have my darling, Britney Spears. This song, eventhough it's generic as ****, opened the doors to Britney to conquer the world again. Eventhough, "Hold It Against Me" peaked at #1 and stuff, it didn't have longevity as "Till The World Ends" had. I really like the energy of the song and eventhough it is generic as I said, it still sounds fresh and very new, I guess it's because it's Britney's first trial in this field. Anyway, I am glad it was one of last year's biggest hits and I'm glad it brought Britney some sales! Besides I'm actually curious to see how it's gonna be when December 21st arrives, if this song is going back to the charts or not... . Let me say that this was so tied with "Countdown".
(Four out of six singles from Britney Spears)

Shakira
Antes De Las Seis
Sale El Sol
Pop |
And here Shakira is again. This time less dancy and slower. This is such a beautiful ballad, I know many of you don't understand what she sings in spanish (sometimes not even in english) but one of the best things about being portuguese is that you can understand spanish easily. This song lyrically is completely beautiful and the rhythm, the emotion you feel when you're listening to her is just... heartbreaking because she says that "Since the day you're gone I see night coming before 6PM". Shakira uses so many beautiful metaphors when she sings spanish love songs. I really love the instrument that plays right in the beginning in the song, I believe it's a guitar, it gives this different vibe to the song and less sad, I can't imagine if this was sadder...
(Two out of three singles from Shakira)
Britney Spears - Criminal
from the album Femme Fatale (Pop)
And we've reached the Top 3! And finally! Britney Spears released a ballad as a single, eventhough it ended up doing bad and eventhough it was chosen "by the fans", I know that Britney wanted this to be a single, she expressed how happy she was when she announced it, and she even had the concept for the video! I really love the different sonority this song has, it's not generic, it's not that Pop, it is less mainstream, it's so unique, the flute makes it all for me, it brings you this very sad and very lonely feeling and at the same time it brings you hope, because you feel what she is singing, her voice is completely flawless here, if you ask me, and I really love the way the verses are sung in a way and the chorus in a very different and more relaxed way. Britney shows how versatile her voice is in this song. I can't express how happy I still am that this became a single. It is definitely one of Britney best songs.
(Five out of six singles from Britney Spears)
Shakira - Sale El Sol
from the album Sale El Sol (Pop Rock)
This song means so much to me, it's such a shame only one can be the first 2011 song, because this, as well as "Criminal", deserved it. This song helps me all the time to relax, think about life, think about my mistakes, let go of my fears, let go of the things that annoy me, and so much more. It gives me the strenght I need to move on. The lyrics say it all, again maybe you don't understand what she says but lyrics like: "This weeks with not seeing you, they looked like years"; "I wanted to kiss you so bad that my lips hurt"; "And one day after the thunder is gone, when you less expect the sun comes out"; "Because one plus one isn't two all the time"; "There is no evil that lasts for 100 years nor body that can handle and the best part always waits ahead". I don't wanna bother you but they really help pretty much everyone find that shiny sun in their lives, besides its rockish sound is even better because you feel free, you feel you can do anything. Let me just say during the last Shakira concert when she said that part "and the best part always waits ahead" she was looking at me, so it feels even more special.
(Three out of three singles from Shakira)
Britney Spears - Hold It Against Me
from the album Femme Fatale (Pop)
And so here we are! No surprise, Britney Spears leads my Best Of 2011 with the lead single of the album "Femme Fatale", "Hold It Against Me". When I first heard the demo I was ultra disappointed with the song but when it came out I basically died and touched heaven, everything about this song is epic, Britney's raw vocals, the amazing "going to heaven" chorus, the epic breakdown, the dubstep inclusion, Britney's sexy vocals and sexy way to finish the lines adding a "Ah" after every word. This should've been the biggest single from the Femme Fatale era but people are way too stupid to appreciate one vanguardistic song, and yes this is what I call a vanguard song because it brings something that has never been done in Pop Culture which is include this new sounds such as this explicit dubstep in every part of the song, people are too busy appreciating boring songs. Let me also say that this turned out to be the perfect opener for her tour, the energy is undeniable and seriously this defined my year and it became my favourite Britney Spears song.
(Six out of six singles from Britney Spears)
This is it guys! Thank you so much for the support and for even taking your time to comment on something that should had been done a while ago! I hope my Best Of 2012 can actually be on time!
